Day One of Deb's Holiday...

So a quiet day had been planned for today as we didn't actually make it to bed until the wee small hours having consumed more than our fair share of rose wine.  We left Deb to lie in and lie in she did emerging at about 11.30am - we cannot believe that Angela's builders hadn't pitched up but were very grateful that they hadn't!  John and I had a quiet couple of hours sitting in the shade under the gazebo - at one point I took a look over into the field and couldn't believe that I managed to spot one of the missing collars - being orange and with everything so parched I could have easily missed it.  We are still down several but at least two have come back.

We had a leisurely morning and introduced Debra to the delights of lounza and halloumi in a pitta for lunch which was followed by several dips in the pool before going for a walk down through the village to give Debra some idea about where we live.  Just next door to Marian and Chris's Debra had her first taste of the local goats (not literally of course).  They were out grazing and seemed to be having a good old chomp on some of the ripening green figs which are all over the village.  We couldn't see anyone tending the goats which is unusual so aren't sure if they had made a bid for freedom from somewhere!

Our late afternoon walk was in full sunshine but fortunately it was beginning to cool down.  We walked down through the village looking at all the old buildings and the amphitheatre where we had witnessed the easter celebrations earlier in the year.  Both Vicki and Laura will be familiar with the route we took out of the village towards the rocks and Pittokopos only it was darn sight warmer than when we had done it with them although I have to say that the day we did it in February with Vix and had our picnic at the lookout post must have been one of the very few in February which was warm and dry.

It is getting very very dry out and about now but the walk is still a nice one and as John always says you can never have too many photographs of Chrysochous Bay (as Vix will testify!!) so I refused to take the bay and opted for the landscape instead.  We took the shorter route which involves a bit of a steep incline but as it was hot we were keen to get back to the village and a trip to Christos's for a well earned cold drink!!!  We had to avoid a group of local yappy dogs who looked fierce from a distance but ran off when we approached!

It was a good start to the holiday -  a lazy day, a nice walk and then a cooling drink and mini Greek lesson in the Taverna!!!  We have decided to eat there on Thursday and Alkisti has promised to make fresh Pastichio for me which I am soooo looking forward to already.  We returned home to one of my famous Stifado's with Greek lemon roast potatoes and peas all washed down with some Kolios red wine - just to ring the changes.  I think that Debra has had a good day - at least the weather here is considerably better than in the UK as we see that Wimbledon has been rained off  today.  Tomorrow the itinerary allows for some time at the beach - Debra has said that she hopes to be up a bit earlier but hey she is on holiday so what's the rush???  A slightly earlier night tonight than last night but I am not sure we have consumed any less wine!!
