July Ladies Wot Lunch...

We had a quick run into Polis this morning as Debs wanted to do a bit of shopping and get some gifts to take back to her family.  Our retail therapy was followed by a quick walk round the square and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.  You see places differently when you see them through the eyes of a visitor - it is just somewhere we normally do our grocery shopping but it is actually really quite quaint.

It was the July Droushia Ladies get together today and in Marian's absence I had organised high tea at the Akamas Spa along with a free swim.  Not a lunch I know but I thought it would be nice to try something different for a change - it was also a nice opportunity to take Debra along and show her a bit of upmarket Droushia!

We arrived at about 3.00 which enabled us to take good advantage of the sun loungers and the pool.  We were joined by various members of the Ladies group including Wheelie Helen and her Mum Cynthia who is over from Malta, Arty Sheila and Crafty Jane.  The pool was beautiful although those of us more vertically challenged had to stand on tippy toe as the only shallow part is where there is the slope to walk in.  Debra is not a swimmer so our pool and the floats just suited her fine as there is nowhere that is too deep.  I am not a great swimmer myself but I did manage two circuits of the Spa Pool which is far enough for me - in fact Mum can give me a run for my money as she does 20 laps of her pool in the morning and another 20 in the afternoon.  Dad has had a bit of an issue with his pool for the last few days but the pool guy eventually turned up and it is was an algae problem which required the pool to be shocked.

Anyway back to the Spa - I think Debra was quite impressed by the surroundings and today (without the fires raging down in the valley) the view was fantastic.  No smoke and no heat haze which meant that you could even see the mountains of Turkey on the horizon - or at least you could with the help of some binoculars!  It really is a wonderful location and at least today there were one or two more people staying there rather than it being empty.  It would be such a shame for this to become some sort of white elephant in the village.

We had a very respectable 18 people booked in for High Tea which included our two Cypriot ladies Kelly and Marianne.  They booked at the very last minute - typical - but it was great to see them as it was always Marian's intention to make the group open to all.  High tea made a nice change although I think they cater better for smaller numbers but it hardly broke the bank and there seemed to be quite a hum of conversation.  I know that whatever is organised there will be some who cant or don't want to come along - c'est la vie!!  Not quite decided upon next month's venue - I am quite keen to try Finnikas in the village which may be an experience and a half but Helen has offered to come along and try and help organise using her Greek which is far and away better than mine!

Our evening was spent enduring the highs and lows of the Ferrer Murray match which ultimately ended on a high with Murray winning although not without a battle - perhaps his coach could persuade him to desist from using that lob and those bloody awful dinky slow over the net shots which did not always go over the net and maybe getting a first serve in once in a while will be useful if he is going to beat Tsonga.  Easy on the eye Tsonga!!  The next match will be a win win for me as I don't care whether its Murray or Tsonga that goes through.

Yet another good day for our visitor.
