silk purses

I was asked to take some photographs of a villa which is going up for rental this coming season - you know me I am always happy to go out with my camera and take snaps so it really is no hardship except I had expected just to mosey along and capture the delightful rooms in a couple of minutes and then take my leave - but no, this villa is being gutted and refurbished so there was stuff everywhere and I mean everywhere so each of the rooms, where we could, had to be dressed like it would look when all the works have finished.  This is no mean feat when there is workmen's detritus everywhere and even worse the kitchen had been ripped out!!!

Just goes to show what a bit of thought and flair can achieve as rooms were transformed in seconds and then just as quickly untransformed so that the workmen could get back to doing their thing.

I am sure that when the work is finished this will be a lovely villa - let's just hope that when it is advertised nobody wants to go into it any time real soon or else they are going to be sadly disappointed!!

Under the circumstances I don't think I did too bad a job - the lounge dining area was the biggest challenge as the resident painter decorator seems to be dossing down in there and we had a mountain of stuff to hide so that I could try and get a photograph that would give some idea how that area might look.

Job done but anyone checking out the villa website might be eagle-eyed enough to spot a recurring theme with some of the finishing touches to the rooms as various items like the jug with the flowers will appear in several different shots!!!

For Jane and John's final evening on the island this holiday we chose somewhere new to eat.  We were limited because this time of the year many of the tavernas are closed whilst the proprietors recharge their batteries in readiness for the season ahead.

We have passed the Old Cinema in Peyia on a number of occasions and were glad to see that it only closed for a short break between Christmas and the New Year and reopened on Monday.  It is a traditional grill house which benefits from a monster wood burning stove and our table was slap bang in front of it so we could sit Dad right by the fire.

We had a lovely evening and although we met at 7.00pm and expected an early return to Droushia it was past 10.00 when we got back into the car for our ride home!  The food was good honest traditional style grilled food although the complementary zivania at the end proved a little too much for some!  We will visit it again and try the one next door as apparently that it good as well.

Anyway sadly Jane and John's month is now up - it has been great having them here joining in our celebrations and we really hope it wont be too long before they return.
