Bye Bye...

We reached the end of John's Mum's holiday today but she and John had a late flight back so we spent most of the day at home packing and chilling and then saying goodbyes.  The day started brightly - I had intended that we had a lie-in but forgot to tell Boris who appeared outside the front door wailing to come in even though he only has to skirt round the side of the house for the catflap.  I opened the bedroom window and glared at him - he just glared back with a "don't forget Mum I am poorly and you made me go to the vets which I hate" look on his face so I relented and let him in - any minuscule bit of movement anytime after 4.00am is an open invitation for Charlie to seek out his food bowl and then bugger me if Minnie didn't come in wailing too - no sign of Chivers - he is probably fast asleep on George's sunbed with his little tummy full of all sorts of goodies which Pam tempts him with.  She has yet to tell me that Chivers likes George's chips which apparently is Charlie's favourite and she tells me she doesn't feed them but for someone who doesn't have a cat there is something suspiciously like a cat bowl by the side of her fridge!

The early start meant that I got to see the sunrise coming up over the fence and was greeted by a sky full of bee eaters - it must have been a good day for the birds but not so lucky if you were a local bee! The birds spent all day dipping and swooping and eating filling the sky with their distinctive call.  Sometimes they were so low over the garden you thought they might come into the pool for a dip.  On that subject we are still swimming even though it is a tad chilly on entry - John says we should keep going until the water temperature drops to 70 degrees or 22 in new money which we thought might be sooner rather than later but over the last couple of days with slightly warmer evenings the temperature has started to rise again so we will be able to use if for a little longer yet.

During breakfast we managed to locate the provider of the poo which keeps appearing on the decking.  We knew it came from a hawk moth caterpillar but couldn't see it previously but now the leaves on the vine are getting fewer (mainly thanks to the caterpillar) there he was in full view.  I know that Janet is not a lover of creepy crawlies but really this was a handsome chappy.

Shortly after discovering the green one I got hit on the head by some more poo (fortunately it narrowly escaped my cornflakes) so we knew there was another lurking in the undergrowth.

Maybe allowing the vine to wander all over the gazebo isn't such a great idea after all if our food is in danger of extra fertilization.  Top tip - don't look up with your mouth open as you just might get more than you bargained for.

We keep teasing Janet that she killed these two's dad the other day when she felt something tickling her leg and before she knew what was happening she had swiped a newly hatched Vine Hawk Moth off of her leg and then immediately and inadvertently trod on it spreading the contents of its body all over the decking!

After the round of goodbyes at C&A Apartments in Polis, Di and Rob in the village and George and Pam our neighbours it was time to hit the road Jack and we had decided to get down to the airport in good time what with it being a Wednesday and all the issues surrounding passports, Ryanair and the French air traffic controllers strike.  We were going to show John's cousin Karen and her partner Dipak where Bonamare beach bar is so that when they are going to the airport or picking people up they can get there and relax until the flight is ready.

It is a great spot providing that, if you have decided to go and eat there pre-flight, it is not packed which happened to us one time so we had to do a quick turn round and ended up at Mandria instead.  We were ok this evening probably because we got there around 6.00pm before the rush and all managed to get our meals and have a drink without feeling rushed or stressed.

No problems at the airport, I dropped them off and tracked the flight for a while which left a little late but seemed to be making up the time.  Before I know it I will be back down there waiting for John to arrive.
