Visitor Central

We currently have John's Mum, sister, brother-in-law, nephew, neice, cousin and partner, friends Barry, Lynne and Joseph, friends Laura and Mark and my cousin Nick and his wife all here on the island.  We do not have enough hours in the day!  Mark has just come up to borrow things for their day at the beach and Karen has just rung to say that she and Dip are pitching up for lunch!

I had promised a girlie shopping trip today for Janice, Janet and Alicia today so that is what we had - I should have warned those of  you who like to have a little dalliance with stocks and shares to put all your savings on Jumbos this morning as we certainly managed to boost their profits this afternoon.  John asked me what time I thought I might be back - I said 4.00pm but I never actually said which day!

Our first port of call was a newly opened craft/gift/clothing shop located opposite the Laura Beach Hotel called Pandora's Box - this proved very successful as all sorts of nice gifts were purchased there - good to get something a bit personal and individual rather than mass produced.  I particularly liked the gift Janet has bought for her friend Jackie but I can't give the game away as she may well be reading this and Janet isn't going back to the UK for sometime yet.

The main part of our shopping was done at the Mall - I left Jumbos till last - not sure that was such a good idea because that probably took us the longest but they found all sorts of nice clothes and shoes wandering around before Janet and I waved the white flag (we were chief bag carriers) and insisted we stopped for a bit of lunch!

Alicia was introduced to the delights of a vegetable chop suey which she had never eaten before but said she would try and she devoured it along with half of my egg fried rice.  She really has been a dream in the food department for someone who could have been a bit awkward to feed - she tries things without dismissing them so good for her.  In fact she has tried all sorts of new experiences without forming any preconceived ideas - that is good for a 14 year old at the best of times but for one who had never been abroad before is to be congratulated.  She was probably missing her mucker Nathan but he was at home being entertained by Mick.

Alicia wanted to get something as a thank you for Janice and Mick and whilst Janice expressed interest in a whole host of things she then said she wouldn't actually want them for herself so we kept picking things up and then having to put them back down and we were trying to do this without her noticing!  In the end, whether she likes it or not, we decided to get a photoframe and I would decorate it and put in a photograph from this holiday as I knew I had managed to take a half decent one of them at the Last Castle yesterday.  Alicia liked the end result and Janice can always put it near the front door to frighten off burglars!

We eventually got home around 5.00pm the same day thankfully and after dropping Janet off at Latchi for another mini break we returned home to Droushia to catch up with Laura and Mark and to acquaint Mark with a Fitos sized Pork Chop.  Laura didn't want too much so ordered a prawn cocktail and some grilled halloumi which came out as two full sized meals!  We managed what we could and made a reasonable stab at the figs, grapes and cake which followed plus the rather large complimentary brandies and sketo coffees.

We returned home to catch up on the last 3 years sat outside under the gazebo.  It only felt like yesterday when we had last seen them.  We lived opposite each other in Married Quarters in Yeovil for about 5 years and they were kind enough to drive us up to London when we left for our new lives here in Cyprus - in return John gave them our old and trusty Peugeot 406 Estate - the Hearse - now sadly in that big old car breakers in the sky.

We shall see them again tomorrow when we plan a traditional meze in the village.
