Happy Birthday Sheila...

I have to say I was apprehensive about whether or not we were going to be able to get the dance floor where we play pickleball cleaned to Marios's satisfaction.

He had offered us a heat-gun which is what he had to use previously when the tape had left a sticky mess but we were concerned about damaging the laminate flooring.

Marios can sometimes come across as a bit grumpy and his mood isn't helped when people leave the room and don't remember to switch off the lights or fans or enter the building before he has disabled the alarm and God only knows why they do that because if you listen you can hear when the alarm has been turned off as it plays a sound.

John and I got down there early armed with cleaners and cloths and we were delighted to see that what had been left on overnight had done a pretty good job.  Within an hour we had completely removed all the residue glue and guff, polished the floor and got the windows open and fans on drying it out in readiness for new tape to be put down.

Marios came in, I think to take a look at the state of the floor.  He fiddled around a bit and then decided to wish us a Merry Christmas giving me a kiss and John a man-shake - he seemed really pleased with what we had done and wanted to know what cleaner we had used - it was Astonish with grease remover and it was magic.  We got the tape down, the net erected and we were ready - the room looked spick and span.  Di and Liz joined us and were well impressed.  Unfortunately John's knee wasn't so good today so we definitely need to get that sorted in the New Year.

Mum and Dad and John and I had been invited to Sheila's 70th birthday party this evening which was a meal at Finikas in the village.  Originally Mum and Dad were going to stay over.  We know that isn't ideal as our house is cold compared to theirs with has central heating, and Dad worries about the cat but it did mean we could all have a little drinkie and not worry but with Mum still recovering from her eye op she has to sleep on a sofa to ensure she doesn't turn over and lie on her poorly side so John suggested we pick them up after pickleball and take them back with us and then he wouldn't drink and then drive them home so they could feed Fred, sleep as they needed to and wake up in their own house.

We managed to position Mum and Dad right by the fire in Finikas so they were as warm as they possibly could be during the meal and next to Sheila and Klaus so they could catch up.  As usual Philippos and Marina and Loukas and Andri did us proud and we enjoyed a lovely meze - the roast potatoes were outstanding!!!!

Have to give a big big thank-you to Sheila and Klaus for inviting us and for funding the whole evening which was so very kind of them.  Diana and Rob, John and I gave Sheila vouchers so she could treat herself to a haircut or colour or pamper at the salon where I get my hair cut.  Mum and Dad gave her a voucher so she and Klaus could treat themselves to a luxurious afternoon tea at the Elysium but best of all Sheila is being treated to a trip back to the UK to see her daughters and her grand-children - this was a complete surprise for her and I know she will be so excited about it.

We got Mum and Dad home safe and sound - I think it was the right decision and John was happy to have done it - it was a lovely evening with Klaus and Sheila and the weather was kind driving down to Emba and back so it wasn't really any hardship.  All our four cats were in when we got home so we were happy too!
