Friends for supper...

Today we were basically getting ready for our visitors Gillian and David who were coming for an evening meal.  The day started clear and bright with lovely views across to the bay and up to the Troodos where there is still a little snow on the summit.  The sunshine didn't last long it deterioriated quickly and it became grey and overcast, gloomy and cold.  Shame really as there was supposed to be an eclipse and a special moon tonight and Gill was planning to bring her camera and tripod to capture it.

We got everything ready and the house spick and span so it was up for inspection although Chivers never got the brief as he was straight on the bed which was now sporting the new pillow protectors and the new duvet cover and pillowcases but it felt really cold everywhere so John got the fire lit early.

We got the table laid and candles lit and the fairy lights and it all looked lovely and we were happy that we were ready - I had my checklist at the ready so that I didn't forget anything and we had an hour or so to relax before they arrived.

Mr Boo likes to take advantage of the warmth coming from the fire and he loves to lie on a lap but he never curls up like a normal feline - oh no no no he always has to flop on his back with his head pointing downwards which is not really very comfortable.  I gently moved him off of my legs which were beginning to lose all feeling in them and placed him on the sofa which is where he remained the whole time that our guests were here.

I nipped outside just as the moon was beginning to come up over the mountains - there was a layer of cloud which obscured it for most of its journey so I didn't really get to take a decent photograph when it was at its reddest - a Blood Moon tonight - in fact a Super Blue Blood Moon - Super because it appears to be extra large, Blue because it is the second full moon of the month and Blood because in total eclipse it appears red in colour as it is illuminated by sunlight filtered and refreaced by the earth's atmosphere.

The meal seemed to go down well.  This is the first time that we have had Gillian and David here although we have known them for quite a while.  David has a great appetite and I do like to feed people who like to eat!!!  David and John seemed to have a lot to talk about - setting the world to rights in their own inimitable Northern way which left Gill and I to have a good natter - I am hoping to persuade her to put on a mosaic beginners class when Janet and Jackie are over in October.

A successful evening and if our recycling bin is anything to go by quite an alcoholic one and as Gill was driving that meant the lion's share was down to John, David and I so I probably need to apologise to Gill for being a bit burbly by the end of the evening.   Big kiss to John for making sure that the kitchen was clean and tidy before he retired to bed so I didn't have to face carnage in the morning.
