Friday and we start to return to a bit of normality...

It is Friday and after what started out as a traumatic week things have begun to settle down.  Most of the paperwork we need to get sorted for Mum has been sorted, is being sorted, isn't urgent or is like that one item in the bottom of the ironing basket that you keep meaning to tackle and pick it up, look at it and put it back in the basket untouched.  We will get there but since the car got sorted and the bank accounts and the pensions I feel we could do with a bit of a rest from having to explain about my dad's passing.

We went down to Emba on what was a beautiful day and John took the opportunity to take our cars and mum's car to the carwash for a clean.

Mum and I stayed behind.  This winter has been so much milder than previously and this is underlined by the fact that all around Mum's garden there are swifts or house martins flying about and on her purple lantana we had the magnificent sight of a Swallowtail butterfly.  Now I would not expect to see one of these quite so soon but there it was dipping in and out of the pungent purple flowers.  Something like this cannot stop a smile forming - nature is beautiful.

Today we were returning to pickleball - our regular Friday group save for Diana who is still recovering from Bronchitis and lack of voice.  Liselotte and John came down from Arodes.  They are brilliant with Mum and were both kind enough to come and pay their respects at Dad's funeral.  Liselotte worries about her father back in Denmark so she knows exactly how we are feeling at the moment.  They hold no prisoners when they play and Mum was on top form playing some really sneaky shots.  I would have to say that her cataract operation really has helped her in that respect.  She wants to go and have her eyes tested next week to make sure that she is wearing the right prescription for her eyes as they stand and then in due course she will have the other eye dealt with.

We returned from pickleball to enjoy a cuppa and a Lidl pain au raisin - their profits must have improved no end since we have discovered them there.

John will be a bit peeved that I left one behind which had his name on it so I have told mum to freeze it and he can have it some other time - it may not be quite so nice as fresh and warm but I reckon if we heat it in the oven it will be fine.

I left Mum planning her evenings viewing.  She has been really good getting to grips with the vagaries of our TV system here in Cyprus which is provided via the internet on an Android box and therefore can be fraught with difficulties.  She is enjoying Pointless - as John and I do and that is on every night which is good.

This evening we went out with Rob and Di to Fitos for a meal.  It is the first time we have been able to get together since their return from the UK and their subsequent illness.  Poor Rob seems to have lost a whole load of weight which he can ill afford and for me it was lovely not to have to think about what we were having for tea.  We had lovely food.  I had the special beef and mushroom pie which was outstanding and it was lovely to be able to sit down with them and talk.  The only trouble is that every so often something would make me catch my breath as it reminded me of Dad - something so simple as seeing liver and onions on the menu which he had only a couple of weeks ago when he ate there with John.  I know this is going to happen for a long while and I thank Di and Rob for being so understanding and for being there for us.
