Monday

We begin to adjust to our new normal which meant that this morning I was going to go to Art at Sheila's and John was being a nice son-in-law and taking Mum to her hospital appointment.  I had offered but he had said I shouldn't give up my art.  He was also catching up with with cousin Karen and her partner Dip - sadly we haven't had time to spend with them this visit and Dip returns tomorrow and Karen on Friday.  Mum's was a scheduled visit to the hospital to see the heart specialist who is keeping an eye on her prolapsed valve or whatever it is that she has wrong - I think that is what it is.

It was a little strange to go to Sheila and Klaus's and park up next to the cemetery knowing that this was now where I would go to talk to Dad.  His grave is still looking neat and tidy and remarkably our floral tributes are still going strong, they will have to be removed but for today they were still good enough to remain in situ.  I took a little time to remove some weeds from Elena's resting place which is in need of some TLC and I shall get John to come up with me one day and do something about it.  We have to remember that this is not Bassam's religion and so it holds no sort of sentiment for him or the children.  I had my chat with Dad and told him that we are looking after Mum and together she, John and I would continue living his dream here in Cyprus.

It was lovely to get back to my picture which is taking shape although it didn't look like I had done much today.  It was a lovely chance to catch up with Sheila as I hadn't had an opportunity to ask her about her recent visit back to the UK to see her children and grandchildren.  Bless them she and Klaus have invited Mum, John and I to have lunch with them one Sunday to give Mum a change of scenery and I know Mum will love that as we haven't seen so much of them of late.

I didn't go to belly dancing this evening - I didn't really feel like it this week but plan to return next week.  I spent my time doing some sewing.  Mum had a blouse that John gave her for Christmas that had an elasticated hem which she wanted removed and John's cousin Karen had bought some chenille material and wanted it made into four cushion covers.  She had cut one out and, not having any pins, used cocktail sticks to pin it together!!!  It was a nightmare to sew as the material frayed like buggery and there was only just enough to make four covers.  She knew what she was doing when she took up my offer of machining them for her!!!  I had to lay the material on the floor to cut it and it picked up every bit of dust and cat hair known to man.  I used four lint rollers getting the bits off of the black chenille - black in our house is a no-no!
