Day One of Hazel's holiday

So it is Sunday and the first day proper of Haze's holiday and bearing in mind we did not retire until the wee small hours we were up relatively early.

Today we have appreciated now useful this blog is as I read to Hazel the entries relating to her trip 6 year's ago. This is to ensure that this year she has a whole host of new experiences and to make sure she does not repeat the schoolboy error of last time and have too much sun on day one.  Having said that the recent beautiful weather in the UK should have helped with acclimatising her to our summer temperatures although it is slightly cooler this week than last thankfully.

So as I said although we were late to bed having had so much to talk about - not least the transgender strippers posing as a Frankie Valli tribute band! - we were up reasonably early ready to make the most of the next oh-too-short week ahead.

We had scribbled down some thoughts on how best we might fill our time but we are mindful of over-organizing guests in our desire to ensure they see absolutely everything in one go!  This time we will endeavour to adopt the Cypriot siga siga attitude to life, the universe and everything.

We started our day with a welcome dip in the pool - the nights are warm and sticky so it is a great way to refresh yourself.  The pool is actually the temperature of a warm bath although it doesn't feel it when you first get in but once you have done the bobbing up and down thing to get a cooling breeze on your skin you soon realise how warm the water is.

We have a refreshing breakfast of fresh fruit and yoghurt whilst formulating our plans.village. Today was easy, it being Sunday mum would come up and we four were going out to lunch to Yiallos in Latchi.

Hazel has been more than happy with having a kitty for this week as it means that any meals, food or petrol is paid for out of that.  She has contributed a third and John and I two thirds and then anything we had in the house when she arrived is fair game to be used/consumed.

Mum arrives safe and sound and seemingly none the worse for her nasty encounter with a carton of cream in Paps although her leg is a livid shade of purple and with some open wounds we decide it best that she does not go in the pool this week.

There is a warm breeze down on the coast which makes it very pleasant for having lunch which I think everyone enjoyed.  We were ashamed to admit to Hazel that we have yet to have had a swim in the sea this year but this will be rectified shortly as we have penciled in a trip to Takkas Bay.

We returned home with mum taking up the steamer in Wendy and Bill corner which my dad so loved to retreat to after Sunday lunch. So after a sensible wait to allow our food to digest we returned to the pool where Hazel managed to destroy the inflatable lilo thing her son Jordan (and Abi) had left for us last year and which we had lovingly looked after ever since although to be fair it was brittle from exposure to the elements!  This necessitated the introduction of our two 'big boy' rings which practically fill the pool on their own but provide much fun and laughter, thrills and spills although mainly spills on this occasion as we struggled to negotiate our way in and out of the damned things!

And don't get me on the subject of the full facial tellytubby snorkel masks kindly left with us by Nathan and Alicia last year - absolutely hysterical but in no way flattering!

We had a quiet evening thereafter as a combination of late night, sun, pool and wine took its toll.  I cant believe we have completed one day already!
