No B&B for me...

I can confirm that I do not intend to start up a B&B anytime soon.   Having to think about what our guests might like to eat and how much (Uncle David insists that as you get older your appetite shrinks although I have seen no evidence of this thus far!) begins to take it's toll.

This evening we are going into the village to have a meze at Finnikas so the art of the day and its catering is to supply just the right amount of breakfast and lunch at just the right times to ensure that the mountain of food we will be consuming this evening does not overface us.

I opted for a light breakfast with fresh fruit and yoghurt, honey and cinnamon with some toast if needs be - this was a bit of a winner and there is sufficient fruit left over for tomorrow to offer the same.  The weather has improved so much that it is a no-brainer as to whether we sit outside and eat and it must be warm because Uncle David has consigned his trusty jumper to the bedroom along with his hat which is a bit of a mistake as the sun still managed to creep through the cover of the gazebo and having had several spots of 'sun damage' and skin cancer removed from his head and face he has to be double if not triply careful.

We had planned a lazy day at home which enabled both John and I to get on with a few jobs whilst Joyce and David relaxed in and around the garden with their books and magazines.

There has been a definite growing spurt in the last week and I was absolutely amazed to find that we have a second, different orchid growing in the garden.  I feel so blessed to have had them make our garden their home because I have really no idea how they have come to be there.  This second one has been identified as Anacamptis Coriophora or the Bug Orchid and it growing in the border between Wendy and Bill Corner and the swimming pool.  There has never been anything like it there before and I had thought they grew from a bulb but on further investigation it would appear that they start from a seed and so I can only assume that it being here is as a result of a bird.  I am also thrilled to report that the Bird of Paradise which took so long to produce a flower is now doing so twice a year and I currently have two fully open blooms with others on their way.  This is such a magnificent plant and I am glad that we held on just one more year before we gave it its marching orders.

After a quiet day at home we reckoned that we would manage the walk into the village and back if we took it steadily - Lakis had very kindly offered to drop us down but it was such a beautiful evening that we all thought it would be nice to go for a bimble.  We had much discussion about what we should wear just in case it got chilly or Marina had been watering and the mozzies were about but in the end there was nothing to worry about on those scores.

Currently the majority of the road renovations are centred around the amphitheatre and Stathmos - fortunately all the broken up concrete has been removed and there is just a rough surface to negotiate which we did with relative ease - keeping an eye on David in case he fancied giving us a display of some impromptu break-dancing.

Although we have eaten at Finnikas with Joyce and David in the past we have never been lucky enough to have a balmy evening which enabled us to dine al fresco or υπαίθριος as I believe the natives might call it!  We had a cosy table tucked away from any unwelcome breeze but clearly near where Marina might normally feed her cats as they pulled up chairs donned serviettes and grasped a knife and fork firmly in each paw!!!

We had a superb Meze, we always do, but tonight it was a little different as we had the addition of a dish of stuffed artichokes and stuffed vine leaves, stifado and sort of flattened vegetarian keftedes to go with all the normal dishes we might expect.  Bobster you would be proud of us because we made a a fair crack at it all and in the end only had a small single metal plate of the things we just couldn't manage.  It was a warm and pleasant evening, the wine went down well and Phillipos was a great mine host.  We have organised to take Joyce and David down to see his museum tomorrow!!!

We managed the walk home relatively easily all things considered and the sensible ones amongst us forewent the pleasure of seeing Dirty Leeds fail to get into the play off finals as we were pleasantly full and sleepy.
