Slow News Day...

I am not sure if I have a problem with our Hotmail account.  So if any of you receive some odd emails looking like they come from me they could be spam so if in any doubt dont open them just delete them.

It has been a quiet day today starting off overcast and muggy and finishing with thick, thick fog as we travelled back from Emba after going to the quiz with the other members of Spyro's Neighbours (and we might have to change our name if, as we believe, Sypro and his family are moving!).

As we were going to pickleball in the afternoon we didn't really do too much because we have to leave midday to get there in time.  I was doing a bit of tidying up when I came across the thank-you card that Laura had left behind after her visit.  I kept it because I was blown away by the wording...

Friends like you are hard to find.
In a lifetime, you get only a few,
and when you find them,
you always know them by sight and heart alone.
And when you find them,
you always grow a little bit taller in your soul.
And when you find them,
you also know that as the years come and as the years go by...
...you have been blessed
just to know them;
thus blessed am I, thus lucky have I been...
to know a friend like you.

It brought a tear to my eye when I read it after she had gone home.  Fortunately email, this blog, Skype and John's facebook enable us to keep in contact with friends and family and even if we do not speak regularly they should know we are thinking about them.

It was very, very hot and muggy playing pickleball today and we didn't get off to a good start as we arrived at 2.00pm and Mum had gone to pick up Tom only to be told that he had changed it to 2.30pm.  We carried on to the court and were met there by Jenny so obviously she hadn't got the message either.  As it happened all six of us got to the court by about 2.15pm.

We were having tea at Mum and Dad's before going to Sid's bar in Emba for the quiz.  Dad seems to be coming to the end of the medication as a result of his cataract operation and that is good because it means that he will be looking through this new lens without any gunk obscuring his vision.

Mum and Dad had intended for us to have a barbeque tonight but the weather just wasn't settlled enough for us to be able to bank on it being dry and still enough to sit outside so bless Mum she rustled up something at short notice.  We had chicken in a sauce with dauphinoise potatoes and carrots an peas and whilst Mum wasn't overly pleased with the potatoes it was a very nice and very tasty meal.  I may not have inherited all of Mum's domestic skills but I think some of her culinary skills have rubbed off on me!

Dad is one of my greatest followers on the blog - in fact he does pretty well on the computer using emails and Skype and using the internet to find things that he needs. Technology has changed immeasurably during his lifetime, it is so much a part of day to day life now, that his granchildren and children just wouldn't be able to imagine a world without them.  Anyway back to the blog, Dad often checks to see if it has been updated when I am there with him and could tell him first hand what had been posted if he asked me!
I took with me as 'homework' a Beginners Greek Boook that I brought with me from England when we left.  It will supplement what we should be using for our class.  It is early days but just having a better understanding of the letters and the sounds that they make have made reading it easier - I still don't understand it but I know the right noises to make!  I shall have to make sure that I can read and write both upper and lower case letters without hesitation for Monday.  In fact I am really looking forward to Monday because after my lesson Sean, Sharon and John are coming down to the spa and we are all having one of their High Teas - when Sharon and I went the last time we really enjoyed it so let's hope it is as good second time around.
We have not been to the quiz for a while so it was good to catch up with Janice and Ray - two thirds of Spyro's Neighbours.  Maybe it was lack of practice but we didn't ever really threaten for top spot and we had an absolutely stinker of a round 5.  It was a shame that we didn't have the ticket for the €600 jackpot because this week I would have known the answer!

We had a bit of a hairy drive home as we encountered thick fog from Stroumbi to the other side of Kathikas, John struggled to see the white lines in places but we made it home and in one piece.  The kids were so pleased to see us they rummaged through my handbag to see if I had brought them home a treat!
