I got so carried away with my blog yesterday about the wedding that I didn't tell you what we did yesterday! It had been quite a late night for us as we came back from the wedding and then played cards with Mum and Dad before going to bed - consequently we didn't get up very early!
After breakfast we made our way back home and as it was a bit later than anticipated we declared it a non DIY day so spent a quiet afternoon before heading down to Latchi to check out the bars that might be televising the Grand Prix (and subsequently the football later on this summer). We had a drink in the Elia Sports Tavern and another in Faros - both fine and not overly expensive so I guess we will probably frequent them again in the future! We stopped off at Cristos's taverna as we could see that the family were back and wanted to thank them for inviting us to the wedding - they told us that they didnt get to bed until gone 4.30am - we bet they were suffering from RSI after all that handshaking!!
Today being the first of the month we decided that we would go down into town to do our grocery shopping (wont bore you with the details of our shopping basket!!!). We stopped off to say goodbye to Galadia who is returning to Nicosia with her family but will come back again for the weekend. It was only supposed to be a quick call but we were invited in for a traditional Cypriot Coffee (with obligatory glass of water). Another hour slipped by...
Anyway we got our shopping done and when we got back John wanted to replace the ball-cock in our cold water tank because he didnt think it was working properly. Now as you can see the space to work in is tiny and also very very hot. There were innumerably 'bugger its' particularly when it transpired that the new one was slightly different to the old one and John had to end up putting the old one back. He says that if I ever want to lose weight quickly then I need only go and sit up in the loft for a minute or two.
I am a bit concerned about the water that I have been cleaning my teeth with as it comes from the cold water tank and while John was trying to sort the ball-cock he discovered that the tank had at some point started to be colonised by a family of the humungous hornets that are so very dangerous over here. He fished out about 10 - all of which were dead but had nevertheless been floating around in the cold water - disgusting!! John has pointed out that I am panicking about nothing as they couldn't get through the filtration system in the first place and he has sworn on my Dad's life that he has absolutely absolutely removed every last one of them and that if I wanted to go up into the sauna that is our loft I would give the tank a completely clean bill of health!
I had a Nigella Lawson afternoon being a domestic goddess and taking advantage of the bargain fruit and veg that Orphanides puts on sale. I got a huge bag of slightly has been lemons and peppers today for a few cents and so this afternoon made fresh lemonade and a roasted red pepper and rocket soup.
John then set to putting up the new fan in our bedroom - we have opted for a second spitfire one like we have in the lounge - only this one has a remote control and, check this out girls, the remote control is fitted on my side of the bed!!!
As the afternoon drew to a close we had a phone call to tell us that the men were coming up from Paphos to deliver the barbeque housing that we had ordered. John managed to persuade them to drive into the field behind us and use the arm to pass it over the fence directly into the garden.
This was a real bonus as we had been worrying about how John was going to get it from the road down our path into the garden because he only has a wheelbarrow which would collapse under the weight as it is made from cast concrete and also John's poor arm really isnt getting the rest it needs to improve.
John now has a very large jigsaw with not many pieces but boy they weigh a ton!!! This is going to be our next little project - now children how many 'bugger its' are there coming up for Uncle John and Aunty Jill??
Pondering the job we sat down overlooking Chrysochou Bay eating the home-made soup and drinking the home-made lemonade. Life is good!!!
