Big Day out in Polis...

Yet another beautiful day here in Droushia and even warmer than yesterday.  We took the opportunity to sit in the sun and have coffee and the remainder of the mince pies whilst the washing was blowing on the line.

Minnie Mou came and joined us checking out the wooden pallets that John is going to use to make a wood store.

John had planned for us to pack up a picnic and go to Latchi or Polis for lunch but we were out of milk and other bits and pieces so we decided to go down into Polis to do a bit of shopping, get some fresh pittas from Paps (they are the BEST) and come back and eat up the remainder of the Turkey.

We got the few bits of food we wanted and bumped into Annie and Pam from the crafting group.  We would normally meet on a Wednesday but a whole load of them are at En Plo down at Paphos Harbour for the week selling their wares to the tourists!

Whilst down in Polis we decided to go to the bank and then have a walk in the lovely sunshine before going to the Art cafe for a coffee.  We like Polis Square although there are quite a number of shops which have closed down permanently along with those that are closed for the winter.  Even so there were quite a lot of tourists milling around - you can tell them as they are in shorts in t-shirts whilst we are in jeans and jumpers!

We decided to walk the long way round to the Art cafe which takes you down round the front of the restaurants and along by the municipal park.

We have had good reports about the taverna which is on the left of this photograph - it is called Moustakallis which we think means 'the man with the moustache'.  We are going to have to give it a go at some point and then we can report back.

We walked into the park and down to the end where there is a beautiful view across the valley down to the sea.

You can see from the sky what a beautiful day it was and to be honest even jeans and jumpers were too much today!!  We found the Art cafe but unfortunately it was closed for the festive season which was a shame because I have heard great reports about the cakes you can get from there.  As we walked back through the square we decided to grab a seat at the taverna where Mark (Pamment) and I had eaten a fish meze when he and Laura were here back in October.  We just had a coffee sat in the glorious sunshine watching the world go by - it was ace!

We were home in time to take in the washing all lovely and dry and make a couple of pitta sandwiches and sit outside and enjoy them whilst we debated where we were going to put the outside clock that Mum and Dad had bought us for Christmas.  Eventually we plumped for above our bedroom window where it can be seen from the 'conservatory', the pool and the gazebo.

As the sun began to disappear behind the buildings the temperature drops pretty rapidly and with our house being north facing and no windows on the south wall it remains fairly cool at the best of times. We have had lots of discussions today about whether we should add more heat to the building by way of a small woodburner or whether putting in windows to let in the sun would help.  It's a difficult call really and we think we need to see how long the winter lasts - we haven't had the worst of it yet apparently because typically January and February are wet and miserable.

It's a funny old world when I do ironing to keep warm - well not entirely just for that - all our bedding had been washed this morning and was dry so it needed doing!  John opted for the Wii much to Minnie's fascination as she sat watching his every move - I thought John was in danger of swinging his arm back and smacking her one in the face!!!

It was all too exhausting for Mou and Chivs who retired to bed for a cuddle!  Difficult to see where one cat starts and the other finishes!!
