Enforced Lie-In...

We had an enforced lie-in this morning as we woke to a power cut.  I am not exactly sure when it went off - I know I got up for the loo in the night and the digital alarm clock was blank so I knew it was off but I just couldn't be bothered to go next door and check out the teas-made to see exactly what the time was - the teasmade has a battery back-up so would still be working.

We are fairly stumped without electricity and if John cannot have a cup of coffee first thing then life isn't worth living (not really!!).  We snoozed, even through the sound of Angela and Andreas's builders, until the power was restored at 8.30am.  Normality resumed.

It was a beautiful day again although the forecast for the weekend isn't so promising but then again it is the end of December!  The area of garden outside the kitchen door gets the best of the sun at this time of year and we sat outside to have coffee where I discovered I have a sports injury so that my foot makes me look like elephant man or should I say elephant woman!

I did something the other week and had it all strapped up but it appeared to be ok so I must have aggravated it playing yesterday and now have a big old lump on my ankle - strange thing is that it doesn't hurt at all.

The kids are never far away from us and today they have found a new sunbathing location - on top of John's pool chemical shed.  They are both sun worshippers - in fact Minnie is a heat lover whatever the source as she likes to be directly in front of the fire when it is on!

Although the perspective in this photo is deceiving I think you can see that Min is destined to be a dumpy little cat and Chivs is going to be a much bigger beast although he is a complete whimp.  We are making progress with the cat-flap but he can be very limp wristed (or should that be pawed?) about it when he wants to be!

We were going into Polis this afternoon for a bit of essential shopping but in the meantime I did a little bit of gardening - mainly weeding as millions (and I do mean millions) appear after every little bit of rain. Some of the plants we had expected to survive just haven't and others are doing brilliantly.

I am not sure that I have thanked Angela enough for the marigold plants she gave me back in May.  They have flowered and died back and are now reflowering and I am saving the seeds so that the front border can be a blaze of colour.
We had a brief visit down to Polis to buy a second big bottle of gas.  We must have had a duff one from Paphos as it only lasted us 5 days whereas the one previous had lasted 17 days.

John is very grateful to Mum and Dad for his Christmas present - the sack truck - it makes life so much easier for him to move the bottles from the car down the path to where we store them.

It being Friday we are all snuggled in the house and have had the mandatory turkey curry (it has finished off the joint from Christmas Day).  We have found a nice red wine which is selling at two bottles for €5.00 - the cats seem to be managing the cat-flap - and all is good in the world.  As John had just said - work doesn't get in the way and as long as we can afford heating and food what more do we need?

We are truly blessed!
