Four Seasons in One Day...

The weather did it all today, this morning it was cold and windy, by lunchtime the sun was shining in Prodromi and we sat outside having lunch, as we headed into Polis it started to rain and there was a heavy mist rolling in over the hills, as we drove back to Droushia we got a smattering of snow flakes and tonight it is hovering just above freezing - so four seasons in one day when we really only want one - SPRING.

After our late night/early morning we had planned a lie-in and we did manage to stay in bed until about 8.00am.  The kids must have been tired as we found Minnie Mou sparked out on the sofa - little head on the arm rest looking oh so very comfortable.

We feel a bit sorry for her and Chivers as they really hate (a) cold weather and (b) being indoors all the time but at the moment they are staying indoors a lot more because it has been too cold or wet outside - it will be fantastic when the conservatory has been finished because they will be able to run around in there or lie in the sunshine and we wont have to keep telling them off all the time.

It got progressively colder as the morning went on - John was tempted to go back to bed but we have quite a few jobs we want to get sorted before Laura arrives and not much time to do them so we got on our slobbers and got started.  Our biggest job is the bubbling plaster because every time we think we have got to grips with the fungus we find a bit more somewhere.  The walls look horrible where we have knocked the plaster off but I know that it is a game of patience and the more we let the walls breathe and dry out the more successful it will be.

Around lunchtime the weather began to improve and the sun eventually broke through and as we looked down to the Bay we could see all sorts of colours in the sea - it reminded me of the sea at Pentewan (which we used to pass on our way down to Grans).  The china clay deposits turned it all sorts of brilliant colours.

With the sun shining the cats took the opportunity to go outside and explore.  Chivers was on a mission to catch bees and even managed to catch one or two - he eats them unfortunately - no wonder his stomach is delicate!  He loves to go walking with John - we will have to watch out for that when it is warm enough for us to walk down to the village of an evening for a drink - likely he will try and come too and there are too many dangers en route.

We decided that we would go down to Polis and get our shopping and call in to YaYa's in Prodromi for some lunch.  It was nice enough when we got down there to sit outside and have our beef gyros and coffee. For a caravan which serves food our coffee was served in fine clean white china!  The gyros and chips were up to their usual high standard and it was lovely to feel the sun on our faces.

We could see the weather closing in over in Argaka and we thought that we would shoot off down to the coast there to take some photographs.  We drove along the coast and parked up at the picnic site - you can't tell from this picture but to our right over in the hills the weather was closing in with low cloud and heavy mists settling on the top of the hills.  The wind was whipping up and you could hear the waves crashing against the shore.

There were copper and sulphur mines in this area (now giving way to a luxury golf resort with two 18 hole courses apparently) but this means that the pebbles on the beach have some fantastic colours in them.  This used to be a very wild and sparsely populated part of the island but is now becoming much more popular and with the luxury resort on the way will get increasingly so.

I left John in charge of the camera whilst I went for a walk along the beach allowing the wind to blow my cobwebs away.

I hate being cooped up - I don't mind staying indoors because I want to be indoors but I don't like being forced to be there!  John knows this all too well as I had been a right old mardy-ass this morning until we went out and then when we do get out we realise that sometimes we don't do it enough - its the bloody weather at the moment.  I think it is considerably warmer back in the UK at the moment!

Anyway I will leave you with one of John's photographs - he took some corkers - we are going to have to get the old Fuji camera fixed so that we can go out together rather than fight over the one camera - failing that I will have to see if I can get a reasonable second hand one on tintyweb for him.

PS - I have made a banana and yoghurt cake today as we had some bananas that were well past their best - will let you know the verdict and if it passes John's quality control then it will appear on the food diary.
