The Weather Improves...

After a very cold end to the day yesterday we tidied up after the workmen had left and went for a well earned shower.  Feeling warm and refreshed I walked across to the kitchen and suddenly it didn't feel quite so cold, there was a stillness and the lights down in the bay were sparkling - all of a sudden I could just about remember those lovely balmy summer evenings we had enjoyed last year.

Vicki will laugh as John kept saying to her that you could never have enough photographs of Chrysochous Bay but he is right - it looks beautiful no matter what time of the day or what the weather conditions.

We settled down to my home-made pasta carbonara which was quite successful and the prospect of our bed with fresh linen and the electric blanket having been on.  What more could you want?

Chivers followed me round the garden last night as I was taking photographs of the bay and I caught him on camera as he was sitting on top of one of the patio chairs.  He has turned into a beautiful cat and although he likes to go for a little wander over in the field he is never too far away.

His main aim in life is to get into the spare bedroom and lie on the bed!  He gets thwarted in his mission on a regular basis but it never puts him off from trying again - he is very much John's boy - they are currently snuggled up on the sofa together - spoiled??? You bet your life!

Friday night heralds the beginning of the weekend and we still make Friday's special with a nice meal and a drink or two as we say goodbye to yet another week here in Droushia.  John promised me a lie in, so that means anytime after 7.30am if I am lucky!  All fed and watered and cosy warm in front of the fire we struggled to keep our eyes open beyond 10.00pm - what a wild life we lead!

So to this morning then and John woke early as usual so bang went the lie-in - or his lie-in as he got up to 'see to the cats' leaving me to starfish until he came back with said cats and a coffee!  He threw all the doors open and the sun streamed into the bedroom - a promising start to what turned out to be the most glorious day.

So glorious in fact that we were able to have breakfast outside this morning (by the bins!!!).  Now this was quite a coup as Mum rang and said that it was cold down in Paphos and it took a while for the sun to break through.

A day like today makes you want to get on with jobs - and knowing that the sun would provide us with hot water later makes that an even more attractive prospect.

I had been speaking to Sheila about the front garden that either gets baked in the sun or flooded or frozen and she had suggested making it into an area for succulents and cacti with stones and chippings.

I remembered that there was some sand up the road that Tim had left behind when he did a job for George and told us we could use so I got John to barrow the sand down to ours and then I raked it over the soil.  We added some of the more interesting stones and I planted up all the succulents and cuttings I had been bringing on.  I am not entirely sure whether the plants will survive but the whole area looked better for putting the sand down.

Having completed the front garden we turned our attention to the door that John looked at yesterday as he was keen to get it put up more permanently.  You can see from the sky what a lovely day it was and this door will provide a real windbreak to the 'bin' area.  These doors started out in life in the lounge so they have done us some good service!

When we eventually finished this project we tidied up and then went for a shower before going down to Polis to do some food shopping.  The solar heating had done us proud today as we both had long hot showers to soothe our aching bones!

We had planned to pick up some cider from the Cava in Prodromi as we had got some from there before Mark came to stay.  Sadly it has closed which is a real shame and as John had been looking forward to it so much we decided to call into Latchi and Faros and have a drink sitting in the sun on the harbour-side.  We had a right old laugh as some punter walked into the glass doors whilst celebrating Arsenal's win.  God did he ever make a song and dance about it!

We are having a lovely slobby evening and John has had the T-Bone steak that Sean left us - I had a nice little sirloin - which we had with salad, chips, onion rings and roasted peppers.  We are planning to watch a DVD if we can keep our eyes open long enough!  More of the same tomorrow before we go off down to Paphos to celebrate Jane's birthday and a meal out at Duomo's - bless John he has said they will have to go some to beat the meal I have cooked tonight - Love Him!!
