We are in the middle of the Cypriot Easter weekend. Easter is hugely important to Cypriots - much more so than Christmas. We had invited Mum and Dad and Eileen up for lunch. Mum and Eileen usually have a girlie time together on Saturdays and we felt awful because we haven't had Eileen up for absolutely ages.
Bless Eileen, she brought CHOCOLATE with her and some lovely strawberries - now I love strawberries but CHOCOLATE is a winner everytime!!!
It was a grey overcast and muggy morning and John shot off down to Polis to get the shopping whilst I showered and did some tidying up. Poor John - we had completely underestimated how busy the supermarkets would be on Easter weekend, to the point where the meat counter issued numbers a la Tesco - this never normally happens - normally there is a maximum of about three people waiting to be served and four or five butchers behind the counter.
It is a day like today where the conservatory comes into its own as we can sit inside but feel like we are outside. I had got John to dig out the old photographs that Dad had rescued from Gran's when she passed away together with the paperwork which related to births, deaths and marriages. For many years my Gran and Grandad lived in a little hamlet on the south coast of Cornwall called East Portholland. East Portholland is part of the Williams estate. The Williams family live at Caerhayes Castle and their ancestors were famous for bringing plants back from China - they are famous for Camellias, Rhododendrons and Magnolias. At some point in the past a Rhododendron was named after my Gran - Rhododendron Alberta.
We had a lovely time together - Dad is improving day by day thank goodness - it is taking time but ultimately I think is cataract operation will be deemed to be a success.
It had been our intention to go down to the village tonight to watch the celebrations, the bonfire lighting and the candlelit procession but it is nine o'clock and it is absolutely piddling down and I mean piddling down. Boyser has come in and is absolutely soaking so we have to keep wrapping him in a towel and drying him off and then he goes out again...
Mum and Dad are back again tomorrow as we have booked to have Easter Buffet lunch at Christos's taverna - we have fingers crossed that the weather will be better but it wont matter too much as we can sit inside.
Just to let you know that the photographs today were taken by the spare camera that we have just bought off of the internet. We are very pleased with it and I am looking forward to John and I going out together on a photography challenge. When we have a bit of spare cash I think I will try and get another lens for it so that we are starting on an even playing field otherwise John will winge!!
Fireworks everywhere tonight and I am not talking pretty starbursts - bangers and seemingly homemade ones at that - we are desperately trying to keep the cats in.
