Being a Sheffield United fan is just too stressful at times and John needed cider to ease the pain of it all - subsequently he was asleep before his head hit the pillow and snoring like a snory thing and oblivious to the sounds of Minnie Mou crunching on something whilst lying on our bed. I have no idea what it was but by the time I got the light on she was foaming at the mouth and still crunching and trying to swallow. Raising John is like raising the dead but I needed his help to try and see what was in her mouth. No idea - whatever it was had gone either down or out and she appeared to be more upset by us trying to catch her. John retired to bed (I am not entirely sure he had been fully awake anyway) but I couldn't settle after the problems we were experiencing with Chivers so I decided to sit with her a while to make sure she wasn't subsequently sick or poorly. She is such a hard nut, she really didn't appreciate my concern and sat there staring me out, belligerently chewing on a beetle, with an 'up yours' look on her face. I retired to bed wondering why I bothered.
As proof that whatever it was she ate did her no harm whatsoever here she is looking like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth in the front garden this morning. She is on bee watch - she loves the bees and she is too stupid to realise that they could just give her a nasty sting - she will learn.
Chivers seems to be ok in that he is eating and drinking but poo watch has been a bit of a failure for the last couple of days so we don't know whether the tablets are working. Half the problem is that he doesn't like taking them and can sniff them out from a mile away so hiding them in his food doesn't work. He is also good at pushing it to the side of his mouth and pretending he has eaten it and then walking away whilst spitting it out. We are trying to locate one of the pill pushers that the vet uses with great success but can't find them available over here so have asked Laura if she can send one out. In the meantime I thought the tick remover I purchased might make a reasonable alternative and we used it this morning and managed to get a direct, down the middle of the tongue shot, with the tablet disappearing in the right direction and staying there.
Ticks continue to be a problem even though both cats were treated a couple of days ago. Chivers brought one in on him again this morning and fortunately as I was giving him a brush it was removed before it had chance to bury into him - disgusting things.
Mum and Dad came up this morning via the Duckpond Market and were laden with goodies as usual. Dad had spotted a cat basket for sale so spent our pension for us and got it so now we have one for each of the cats which is good and at €10 a bargain. Mum had also brought part of John's birthday present (yes we know it isn't till September) but mindful of my abortive shopping trip on Thursday in search of polo shirts she called into the Cotton Traders shop in Kissonerga yesterday and got John a rather fetching green striped polo shirt and like she says she would rather he had it now.
We all took a trip out to the Fly Again at Argaka because there was a car boot sale on and these are good for books if nothing else. I am so amazed that I knew so many people that were there - we certainly have a good community up here and joining the craft group has helped immensely. John very nearly found a jug to replace the wonderful Italian pottery lemon jug that he bought and gave to Mrs Allan all those years ago when we did secret Santa from a charity shop and which he has always wished he had kept for himself and brought over with us.
Car boot over we went to the nursery at Agia Marina to have a look around.
Mum spotted a standard Australian Bottlebrush and asked if she could have one for her birthday which is in May. John and I have bought this for her and it is stunning. Mum bought a pot for it to go in and hopefully in Emba it will survive well. This nursery is fantastic and if we are over that way we always like to give it a visit.
Eventually John and I bought an Arum Lily for the garden - this is one of John's favourite plants and we know that Klaus and Sheila have one in their garden so it should survive up here in Droushia.
On our way back from Agia Marina to Latchi, where we were planning on having lunch, we called into the Sandy Villas just outside Limni to check them out as John's sister and family are thinking about renting one next year.
This is a new development which has been built in anticipation of the new golf courses which are due to be completed by the end of this year. I have to say they seem to have been finished to a very high standard and although the numbering was a bit up the creek we eventually found what we think was the one they are looking at and it was very nice indeed. They would need a car if they were staying there if they want to explore the area because there is nothing much in walking distance but they would probably do that anyway and with a car then Polis and Latchi are not too far and Agia Marina and Pomos are in the opposite direction.
We went on to Latchi and had lunch at Faros. Mum, Dad and John all opted for the Sunday lunch of roast beef and declared it a winner - I went for a jacket potato with prawns and wasn't disappointed. It was just so lovely to be sat in the sun eating good food and enjoying some sunshine.
We returned home and after some after lunch snoozes we continued our mammoth cribbage tournament and today Dad and I were victorious. We have also managed to sort out Mum's mobile phone and the mystery as to why any text messages from me do not arrive - someone has been fiddling with the buttons - now who could that be?????
Our friends and neighbours Sharon and Sean have arrived today and have just called round for a drink and a catch up - it is lovely to see them even if they are only here for 10 days. Sharon came bearing gifts of chocolate and cat treats - she knows us so well!!!
I thought you might be interested in a picture of something I have never seen before - when John went up to Sharon and Sean's earlier to open the windows to air their house he saw a wasps' nest being built and called me over to take a photograph. We probably should have destroyed the nest but it is well away from our house and any other where someone lives and it is nature after all.
My final picture was taken in the garden this evening - the bees are everywhere and I have tried very hard to capture them. I think a little more practice is required but even so I am pleased with this shot. I have finally realised that it is the simple things in life that make you happy!
