July 14th...

Today a whole group of us descended on Livadi Picnic site - thanks to the Wheelies for organising the troops and for suggesting the location as we went somewhere we have not been before.  There were about 20 of us humans who arrived along with five dogs - conveniently a milli-second before a whole load of other happy campers who seemed a bit miffed that we had bagged the best spot!!!

It was a bit of a trek but absolutely worth it when we arrived.  John drove Mum and Dad and Kaye and Richard.  I hitched a ride with John and Susan and a very drowsy Zac who had been given a travel sickness pill just in case.  By the time we arrived Running John said he wished he had taken one beforehand too and all those of us who had washed our cars were wondering why we had bothered!!

It was a lovely opportunity for those with dogs to let them have a free run around.  Amazingly they all got on famously and it was quite hot and sticky so we didn't really mind when they stood next to us to shake themselves dry after a dip in the river!

The selection of food was stunning - it is great to be able to sample the favourite dishes of others and we certainly had more than enough to go round!!!  I will really have to get Claire's recipe for Cypriot Chicken Pie because it was absolutely delicious! Crafty Jane had made some corking quiches and even took on board the fact that Kaye doesn't eat dairy as she had made one without cheese - thanks Jane!

We all enjoyed the food and it was good to see Richard and Kaye relaxing as they have had a bit of a time of it recently what with one thing and another.  We had taken our boules along as had Jane and so a bit of a competition took place.  The playing surface was a bit rough and they kept losing sight of the jack and the dogs occasionally tried to retrieve a boule but apart from that it was all good!

John and Susan opted for more leisurely (some could say childish) pursuits and headed for the children's play area.  The weight ratio on the seesaw was clearly wrong and Susan didn't stand a cat in hell's chance!!!

It was a lovely place and we all had a great time but as the afternoon wore on we all started to feel a little tired and quite warm - the canopy of trees seemed to hold in the heat.  Before people descended into the land of nod we decided to pack up and wend our way back home.  We took a different route home passing by the Pomos reservoir which looked stunning - it is certainly a place we want togo back and explore in more detail - but will need Helen's directions for the walks!!

We got back in time for some of us to have a swim, for some of us to have a sleep and for John to catch up on the test match result to learn that England had scraped a win!  We all had time to chill and to get showered and changed in time to nip to Fitos for supper.  Kaye and Richard have not been before and really enjoyed it.
