Today we were saying goodbye to my sister Kaye and her husband Richard. A week over here goes by so quickly it doesn't seem like five minutes' ago that they arrived and it has been pretty busy to I am not sure they got the R&R that they were anticipating and requiring. One piece of good news is that they received a phone call yesterday regarding the long term care of Richard's mum and they are delighted - it will be a weight off their minds as they have had some very difficult situations to deal with.
We were going down to meet them at Oniros for lunch and stopped off in Peyia to settle our neighbour's electricity bill. I don't know quite how CYTA managed it but they sent the bill after the date it was due to be paid - maybe this is a way to bring in more income! When we look at Peyia now it has grown beyond recognition from the small village it was twenty-odd years ago when I came with friends Marie and Laura to eat at what is now the municipal building below which the weddings are held. All those years ago it was a taverna which was run by the parents of the lad who took the money for the sunbeds at Coral Bay!
We needn't have worried because by the time we got down there the cloud had gone and it was another beautiful day. When we arrived we bumped into Prodromi Pam and her husband Barry and daughter and granddaughter. We were just having a chat when Mum Dad and co arrived and we managed to get two tables up in the shade.
We had arrived at 12.00 so that we could get a decent table because we know from past experience that it fills up quickly. Food orders are taken at 12.30 so we had time to settle for a drink and a chat before deciding what to eat - not that I had much of a decision to make because I had been anticipating a chicken Caesar salad all the way down in the car and John nearly always orders the slow roast belly pork ciabatta!
John was delighted that Oniros is stocking the Aphrodite's Rock beer and both he and Dad plumped for a bottle of Yorkshire Rose to accompany their meal.
We were really glad we got there in good time because by 12.30 nearly every table was full.
Kaye and Richard have eaten out so much over the last week that they will probably be glad to get home for something simple like beans on toast! I mean we are going back down to Emba to move stuff from Lakoudia Street and Mum asked what I wanted for lunch and I said a sausage sandwich!!
The food was up to its usual standard although we were a bit concerned when the garlic bread pitched up with a different sauce. The old concentrated tomato one has been replaced - OOOOOHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - it was a particular favourite of John's but thank goodness the lemon sauce replacement is different but equally as yummy!
A good lunch was had by all and as Kaye and Richard's flight wasn't until later this evening it meant that they had plenty of time to digest and sleep it off before the long trip home. Unfortunately they don't get back to Birmingham until the early hours of the morning.
As a thank you for their stay with us Kaye and Richard had been to Kissos Nursery today and chosen a plant for our garden. They must have been reading my mind because I have been thinking about trying to put together a border of only blue flowering plants and I have been talking about some 'succession planning' to try and ensure that there is colour all the year round. So say hello to Sylvia the Salvia. I am not entirely sure whether this will last more than this season because I had a feeling that these were annuals - we shall see.
We said our goodbye's - for this year at least as it sounded like Kaye is keen to return again next year. They will return to Birmingham passing their son Michael who is on his way to Ibiza for a long weekend!
We returned to Droushia to tidy up and to chill out - it has been a busy few days and we have a heavy day tomorrow lifting and shifting!
