Cat Naming and Shaming and Star Guests

This weekend in Cyprus is a big weekend because it celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary - it is a weekend when the air is heavy with the aroma of Souvla and as a result the queues for meat prior to the celebrations are ENORMOUS!!!  It is one of the very rare occasions when the ticket system is used at the meat counter in Papantoniou's in Polis - having said that you may only have two more numbers to wait before it is your turn but the people before you appear to be feeding the five thousand and not with loaves and fishes.  Running Susan said that yesterday the queues were so bad that the cashiers were bringing drinks to those waiting it out like the first day of Harrods sale.

On the subject of food I had been sworn to secrecy about a very special event happening in Drouseia last night when my lovely friend Elena and her equally lovely family put this little corner of the island well and truly on the culinary map when she catered for the Blue-Eyed Baker Mr Paul Hollywood himself.  Not that I am jealous but he does have a certain je ne sais quoi!  Elena reports that the evening was a resounding success - I have no doubt about that as we have always loved her food and the unique experience that is dining under the Mishmish tree.  I have the photographic evidence to prove it!!

John has just declared that today is one of those days that don't come any better - isn't that nice because we really haven't done that much really!

We were having a bit of a giggle at a sequence of photographs on the internet where people had named and shamed their cats for a variety of misdemeanors.

We were just commenting that our four were reasonably well behaved when we heard the dulcet tones of Charlie coming from our newly refurbished wet-room and I raced in to find him in the sink eyeing up the leap from there to the top of our rather expensive glass panel - expensive only because we had to have it made to measure because our wet-room is so miniscule!  I just had to take the opportunity to name and shame Charlie who looks guilty - no two ways about it!!

After spending a little time getting the villa next-door-but-one ready for the arrival of George and Pam tomorrow we shot down to Polis and joined the back of the meat queue in Paps - unavoidable as it is my turn to cook for Mum and Dad and Klaus and Sheila and the cupboards were bare - to be fair the meat rush had practically subsided so we managed to get our shopping done relatively quickly.

On returning home John took up residence on the sofa as footie season has started and he wanted to watch the Burnley Birmingham game - rooting for Burnley as this is our friend John Read's team.  He is now watching the results come in and sniffing the lovely smells coming from the cooking I am doing in readiness for tomorrow.

I, on the other hand, had been asked to make one of my wooden plaques for someone who is going on a cruise and renewing their vows shortly.  Sam has seen it and says she loves it so that it great and I will drop it off to her next week when we go down to Paphos.

John has been itching to have a go at making a plaque so with a bit of direction he has come up with his own which he is going to see if the Brewery would like as they expressed an interest the other week when I made one for Jean's grandson.

Fillet Steak and a movie to follow - bliss!
