Sad as it may seem I was hugely excited by my gift from the Robsons - handy tissues - but not just any handy tissues the beautifully designed ones by Emma Bridgewater. In my latest craft fad of making signs I have used the tissues to great effect and designs like these are nigh on impossible to find on the island. I thought I would have to wait until much later in the year when Janet Jinty moves out to live in Droushia before I got my hands on some - she has very kindly packed some in her bags for me!
I used the tissues I had brought after one of my trips to the UK when I made a plaque for Kate (Beauty by Kate) to put in her new salon. The end result is not everyone's cup of tea I know but if you like 'vintage' then I think it works well.
Another action packed day was ahead of us - John was spending the morning down with his Mum and Stepdad and I was going to art with Sheila before we hit the Paphos Mall for some retail therapy and then supper with Mum and Dad in Emba.
I don't think Chivers had any idea what was going on as he sat underneath mesmerised, getting covered by human hair - mmmmm there is something very wrong here - shouldn't it be we humans moaning about being covered in cat hair and not the other way round!!!
You can see that John is sporting the 'see-through flip-flop' look - it is an occupational hazard here that your feet still look like you are wearing flip-flops even when you have taken them off!
It being Monday meant I was having a morning's art with Sheila. I am currently working on a picture of Santorini - as Klaus calls it - my Blue Period! It is really beginning to take shape now with just one building, the sea and the flowers to put in but you would be amazed how long that is going to take and then I will need to find a new picture - I hope that if the framing man likes this picture he may ask me to do another. I much prefer doing a picture if I know it has a home to go to.
This afternoon I had a few errands I needed to do down in Paphos and we wanted to checkout the stairs up to Gabors to make sure that John's stepdad felt comfortable negotiating them - before and after a drink! We also decided to take advantage of the cool of the Mall for a little retail therapy and some holiday gift buying for Janet.
The Mall is a little quieter this week than when we went in last week and with the added bonus of a disabled parking badge we were guided immediately to an allocated space - interestingly not right next to the doors to the escalators - these are clearly meant for those locals who just have to park as close to the entrance as possible - this is such a national past-time here in Cyprus where they would prefer drive-in to drive-through!!!
One big bonus was that we managed to get Hadge to negotiate the traveling walkways in Jumbos rather than use the lifts - he admitted to the first one giving him a bit of a squeaky bum moment but then he managed the next two relatively easily - we were very proud of him.
We are going to have to go back again and for longer next time as there was a whole raft of shops we never managed to look at - I suggested that Janet leave a load of clothes here ready for next year and then she could fill that suitcase with shopping!
Anyway they liked the Mall and were particularly taken by the water features - not easy to photograph and even more so when you have a lunatic behind trying to photobomb (thanks JDubz!!)
We eventually made it to Mum and Dad's pulling into the drive just at the moment when I realised I had left the home-made coleslaw at home. This is a must for Janet so it is a good job that Mum and Dad live so close to Paps!
Crisis averted we all sat down to a lovely supper together. Janet kept a beady eye on the coleslaw as it circulated the table! A good time was had by all and we went home laden with all sorts of goodies - shopping food and drink - another successful day.
