When visitors are here our days seem to be filled with food and drink and even when we are not actually consuming anything it is still very close to our hearts! My lovely friend Elaine celebrates her birthday today and I am making her a sign which John saw and thought she would appreciate. I am particularly reminded of the time Elaine and Paul and Lynn and Al came to ours for dinner and we served them a bottle of Prosecco which, unbeknown to us, was off and they politely watered the flowers with it! We are catching up with Elaine on Saturday which is all very exciting because her daughter Hadeel will have flown over very briefly from her job in Bahrain. We know that Elaine misses her dreadfully and so she was more than happy to spend her birthday going to Nicosia to collect Hadeel.
We have met some really lovely people with some truly amazing members of their families who are determined to enjoy life to the full - whatever their 'full' might be. Today one of the boys had been able to be hoisted into one of the mega-buggies hired out by Petrides up the road and with his friend Tom had been enjoying whizzing around the Akamas just like any other lad of his age. Unfortunately Tom lost his wallet somewhere en route either when he was taking Jack around or one of Jack's sisters. They did report it to the police but weren't very hopeful as it could have been anywhere in the Akamas.
Places like C&A do so much to raise the profile of people holidaying with disabilities and in Polis they are just visitors like any other. It doesn't stop the dick-heads parking over the lowered pavements though but then I guess Rome wasn't built in a day.
We were going out for an early tea tonight and had chosen Koulis's establishment Mezeklikia opposite the bowling alley - this used to be just a pizza place but now offers all sorts of other foods and which is rammed to the gunnels every night when we drive past on our way home.
We duly took our position on a table outside - now that the number of diners has risen they just spill out onto the pavement - can't see this happening in the UK with all its rules and regulations! We had a lovely evening and lovely food and an even lovelier bill of about half what it should have been - being nice people we pointed out the mistake and paid the correct amount for which they were very grateful.
Since last year the Longdens have been playing Crib - John and I always love a game of Crib so we went back to Polis for a few hands. We are going to have to donate one of our boards - the one we used was a nightmare - we couldn't work out the pegging in the half light because it had been so badly drilled - John will say that is what contributed to him and his mum losing!
As a postscript I am very pleased to report that Tom subsequently got his wallet back - returned complete - how fab was that!
