Saturday - Sausages and Cider

WHOOPS - forgot to post this last night!!!

So it was a rather leisurely start to the day - a bit morning after the night before plus both Wendy and I seem to have managed to have slept with incredibly snorey man 1 and incredibly snorey man 2 - red wine has a lot to answer for!  We managed a little breakfast but to be fair we all seemed to be rather full from the luscious Lebanese food we had consumed only a few hours earlier.  Wendy and Bill then pottered back to Pissouri.  It will be a little while before we see them again as they are are shortly going on a cruise but we have plans to spend more time together once Autumn/Winter are upon us and the visitor season it as an end.  That is the plan anyway but as we all say once we are retired and over here 'we just don't know where the time goes'!

Today we were taking John's mum and stepdad to the Cider and Sausage day at the Aphrodite's Rock Brewery We have been supporting this establishment (sometimes seemingly single-handedly) since it opened its doors in Tsada after a long battle with the authorities and red tape.   The Brewery offers home-brewed real ales, lager and ciders and now has a rather nice eatery called the Outside Inn and a resident authentic pizza chef... If you don't believe me just watch! Pizza Display Video

The plan was to get there nice and early and get Hadge settled so that he and his clackers (crutches) were safe and sound.  Louise (dog grooming Louise) had kindly booked a table for her group and some other friends and we were tagging on the end of it.  Well we got there early and we got our table and what a good job we did because within minutes too many people arrived all at the same time and for a while the whole thing descended into organised chaos!  It is the same with all these things, some people buy tickets, some people book a table, some people reserve tickets, some people chance their arm at the gate and some others book and don't turn up leaving a reserved table with people eyeing it up feverishly.  The staff were stretched to the max and did a really good job at trying to placate people who were getting a bit hot under the collar in the melee.  We just think that with the space available there were just a few too many there as queuing for the food became an art-form in itself.

On the subject of food we didn't actually have any sausages opting for burgers instead and again got our food on arrival because within about half an hour the waiting time started to become just a little bit too long - bless the entertainer Steve Welsh who managed to incorporate the food ticket numbers for food waiting to be collected into his songs.

Steve Welsh was the entertainer for the day - a singer and comedian (from Wales!) and, as they say in the trade, he did a damn fine turn keeping the peasants from revolting!  Well he was good enough to get Lou and I up dancing but then we two do that at all these occasions - he may not have been quite so easy on the eye as Raphael Orlando Tate but he did make us laugh and his range of song choices was amazing - brave choice to sing Nessun Dorma as his encore but he pulled it off!  Hadge and Janet were so impressed they bought his CD bless them.

With temperatures rising and one or two disgruntled guests poor Bill Ginn (the Brewery owner) had his work cut out pouring oil on troubled waters or in Louise's case personally delivering a sausage when she learned that the wait for a platter was going to be an hour and a half  (at which point we did wonder just exactly how they were cooking them!)  Louise had had what can only be described as an exacting day and the news about the wait for the sausages was just a step too far!  Bless Bill he always tries to keep the customers satisfied and sometimes he must feel like King Canute trying to hold back the tide!  John was happy though - we had our seats and we had our food and the queue for the Yorkshire Rose was nowhere near as long as the queue for cider so he was a happy chappy - very happy indeed by the end of the afternoon as even he got up and danced although mainly with Louise for some reason!!!

All in all our party had a good day and to cheer Louise up John even managed to catch her a fairy!
