Wednesday - The end of a Holiday and the things that have made us laugh

Over this holiday there have been quite a few things that have cropped up in conversation that have made us giggle either through the wrong pronunciation or the wrong word or just a misunderstanding of what someone has said.

For instance when it came to the wrong pronunciation we had a giggle when someone learning Greek very solomnly said Kalamari (squid) to some poor unsuspecting native rather than Kalimera (good morning) then there was the time at the winery when John's mum talked about selling wine from Stowells and pronouncing it so that it rhymed with Towels instead of Poles (sorry Janet)

Lynne and Barry had a story about someone getting riled at a meeting and instead of saying "Can I just interject at this point?" shouted "Can I just ejaculate at this point" and then last night when we were sitting around the dining table Hadge was relating a story to my Mum and I only caught a bit of what he said and I was absolutely sure he said that the incident had happened when he was five "because he had sex in his shoes" which kind of left me gobsmacked until he explained that what he had actually said was "because he had SEGS in his shoes" and Segs were metal shoe protectors which we called Blakeys down South!  Thank goodness he cleared that up!!

The above stories sprang to mind when we were on our way down to Polis to pick Janet and Hadge up for the final time on this holiday - they were flying home this afternoon.  John parked outside the bakery to get some rolls for me to make up for them on the flight when I spotted these bags of what I think are pet food.  Can you imagine what sorts of results would come back if you were to Google Adult Ex on the internet - I dread to think!!!

It was time for Janet and Hadge to say goodbye to Apartment 5 which has been their home for the last three weeks and they have had a fantastic time as always.  We have come away with bags of clothes to be stored until the same time next year and bags of food to fill our fridge!  Good job we took some stuff back with us last night or else we would never have got everything in with the wheelchair and four adults!!!

I think we were adopted last night by Chris and the rest of the family as we have been invited to go down the next time they have a barbeque - we certainly will and John suggested that once the season is over we should all meet up maybe somewhere like the Droushia Heights Hotel and all have Sunday lunch together.  Either way we will endeavour to call in a little more often between Janet and Hadge's holidays.

By the time we were ready to leave it was exceptionally hot - there is still some dust in the air but nothing like yesterday.  The airports were functioning normally thank goodness and apparently I have read that there is even worse to come next week - deep joy.  We set off down towards the airport and had decided to have lunch at Mandria Fish and Chips then we would be sure they had had something to eat and there were my rolls as a backup for later.

Mum and Dad were joining us as a surprise and were already sitting in the restaurant when we got there.  It looks like Dad is telling John how big his fish is going to be and to be fair he wasn't far off - the portions were massive!!!

We rounded off the holiday with a final drink at the Bona Mare Beach Bar and I have just had the shock of my life - just looked up their website to put a link on this blog and the photograph that appears on the home page is of four very dodgy people that I know - Dad, Angela Bassham, Richard Bassham and Mum - bet they had no idea about that!!!
