We sometimes forget that January and February are traditionally our worst months weatherwise - it is now that we would expect real Winter to be with us. Having had such a wet mid-December to mid-January it looked like it had arrived early and then we had glorious weather when Jane and John returned to the UK but bad weather is forecast for the next few days including snow and we are likely to get snow here in Droushia if there is any about - let's just hope if we do it isn't too much as we are scheduled to do our first clean up on Saturday.
I was going down to Polis this morning for a facial with Kate. The island is now very green - hard to believe that it was only back in November we were talking about how green the island would be when Sally and Tommy came to visit - they found that hard to believe but the photograph above is evidence!
Tomorrow Kate is celebrating her 40th birthday and will be going to Dubai for the weekend for some R&R with her husband Dem. No slumming it for Kate as she is staying in the Atlantis which I seem to recall featured a concert by Kylie when it opened although incredibly that was 2008 - I would never have thought it was that long ago! Anyway to greet her this morning was a selection of gifts from friends and clients. My gift was only small but hopefully she will make use of the tote bag on her travels and fill it with goodies from the shops or souks she visits. I shall look forward to hearing a first hand report of her stay if only to prepare myself for Matthew's wedding - I have heard horror stories about the queues at the airport and the cost of things.
We have no pickleball tomorrow and we are contemplating going to the Mall but we don't really need anything and we are trying to be good with our finances at the moment and we are compiling a list of jobs which has a few 'essentials' which will involve some financing and some 'really would like to do'. We want to make sure that the money we spend really does benefit us in the long term. So many project depend on some settled weather and before we know it the weather will settle and then it will be too hot - you really can't win up here where we get such extremes.
Anyway back to Kate's where I had a lovely facial and massage with some hot stones on my feet and I felt lovely afterwards although the headband she puts on me to keep my hair off of my face means I end up looking like the village idiot when it is removed!!
I passed through storms on my way home - the temperature was dropping and it would seem that the forecasters may well be right this time and snow is on the way - I hope not as I am doing lunch on Sunday for Mum and Dad and I really should go and do some shopping in preparation - still having made an inventory of the contents of the freezer I could probably rustle up something edible if push comes to shove.
It was too cold to do too much this afternoon so John and I sat down for a box set binge watch of the Man in the High Castle - we are really enjoying this and are now onto season two. The haunting version of Edelweiss at the beginning with the black and white footage really grabs you.
