Visitors arrive

By no means a normal Monday as my lovely friend Sheila is on her special birthday treat trip back to the UK to see her children and grandchildren so no art for me or at least no art Chez-Knips for me today.

We eventually ventured down to the Metropolis that is Polis to restock Mother Hubbard's cupboard and to try and sort out the address on my bank card which is for mum and dad's account and for John to take little Kenny up to Damianos to put it on the machine that will tell us why, periodically, the overdrive sticks on.

You gotta love our bank in Polis, the Alpha Bank where over the past seven years the only change in the staff has been the manager who had managed to manage there undetected for years even though he knew he should only be there for a couple - he got moved to the branch near Sklavenitis on the Mesoghi Avenue and is now dealing with mortgages apparently.  Anyway the other staff are all the same and greet you like an old friend when you go in.  We like that, it is nice!

Kenny decided to behave all the way to Damianos so the chappie was unable to clag it to the machine because as he told John he cannot diagnose a fault that isn't showing as a fault - fair point!

So we did our shop in Paps, there is now a bag packer in residence who John viewed with some suspicion as he is totally anal when it comes to packing our shopping.  We avoided fisticuffs over the firelighters going in with the frozen goods (bag packer in residence pointing out the error of John's ways) and returned home.

I set aside some time to work on my picture when the light was reasonable.  Without Sheila to chat to I managed quite a bit but boy do I miss her pencil sharpening skills.  If I am not careful I shall finish this whilst she is away and will have to find a new subject.  I have no idea what to try next!

Today was the day that Dad was to say goodbye to his unwelcome guest - he went into surgery this morning and reasonably shortly afterwards I had a text to say it was all done and he was at home recovering.  He has to return on Wednesday to have the dressing changed.

Jane and John were arriving this evening and we had suggested to Mum that it would be wiser for John and I to go and pick them up as Dad would be recovering, it would be dark and her eye is still not 100%.  She didn't argue and I am glad because Dad looked really knocked out by his experience.  The current weather conditions bring about some fabulous skies at night and tonight was no exception with streaks of colour and deep dark clouds as the sun began to set.

When we arrived at the airport the flight was due in early and the flights either side were 40 minutes before and 40 minutes after so it was, by Paphos standards, empty but I did know one person there, Simon (who used to live behind Mum and Dad in Lakoudia Street) was there waiting for his Mum who was arriving on the same Bristol Flight.  It still seemed to take quite a while for Jane and John to come through and John was loitering around the quick drop off point so had to be careful he didn't get moved on.

So we had a bit of excitement on arrival at Jane and John's accommodation as it would appear they had not been sent a front door key!!!  This was after being sent the wrong keys for the car that comes with it!  I spotted a key box outside the door but they hadn't been given the code and with 10,000 possible combinations for the four digits I didn't fancy starting at 0000 and working may way through!  Fortunately there is a handyman type person that lives on site and who was actually home and he knew the code.  We got in to find a complete set of keys (door and car) on the dining room table.  Panic over we set off back home, Mum had prepared a meal for Jane and John so they were shooting off down there as soon as they were organised.  Fingers crossed the weather will be kind to them this holiday.
