Meeting Iris, Andros and Aliki

Today we were invited for coffee at a house with one of the best views I have seen ever in my lifetime fullstop and it is here in Droushia.  Some time ago we bumped into Iris and Andros and their daughter Aliki in Finnikas's taverna one evening and got talking.  We have remained in contact ever since although not in person but through the internet.  Once Iris contacted me regarding a cleaner and I hope I helped her out and then last week she contacted John to ask if he know someone who might be able to trace a possible leak in their swimming pool and John offered to go round and have a quick look in case it was something obvious.

This photograph does not do the view any justice whatsoever and from the approach to the house you could have absolutely no idea what unfolds in front of you.  They have truly panoramic views across to the Troodos to the right, down to Chrysochous Bay in front and then over to the famous rocks of Droushia to the left.  The views are completely uninterrupted and because of the way the house has been constructed will always remain that way.  It is absolutely breathtaking.

I said to Iris that I could imagine she sits and wastes hours and hours just taking in her surroundings - who couldn't fail to want to just sit under the beautiful Mastica Tree and relax?

It was so lovely to sit on their terrace chatting and nibbling on traditional Easter Flaounes and the swirly chocolate and vanilla 'Geographic' cake which you get over here.  John is going to return next weekend with his power washer to blast one of the pipes which appears to be blocked to see if it is just a blockage or a bigger problem that needs attention from some professionals and they have asked us to join them for something to eat.  It is so kind of them and we are still constantly amazed by the friendliness of the Cypriot people we encounter.

It is Christian Easter Sunday for those who celebrate in England (and elsewhere) but in Cyprus Easter is next week - it is not always so close and occasionally it does fall at the same time - I think it has done so once since we have been living here.

Our very lovely friends Sheila and Klaus had kindly invited John and I and Mum to join them for lunch today.

We took Mum to the cemetery to go and see Dad and have a chat with him before we went for Lunch and had a lovely few hours and great food which included a mini Lindt Chocolate bunny which was delicious.  Klaus had done us proud and we enjoyed Chicken, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, green beans and spiced red cabbage and then a delicate pudding courtesy of Sheila.  It was so kind of them to include us in their Easter Sunday and I know that Mum enjoyed their company.  I am hoping they will accept an invitation to join us for lunch to celebrate Mum's birthday in May.

It had been a glorious day today and after Mum returned home to Emba I sat in the conservatory with Charlie Boy to take in the last of the sunshine.  Fat Lad had got himself just in the right position to take advantage of the rays!

Next Sunday we have been invited to celebrate Cypriot Easter with our neighbours Argi, Lakis and Kia and they have invited Mum to come along as well - it is not something she will have ever done with Dad so it will be a new experience for her.  Our Sundays have not yet fallen into a pattern but that is not a bad thing.

We are taking Mum out tomorrow - it would have been her 63rd wedding anniversary.
