For some reason I was awake at 5.30am this morning - maybe my body clock has adjusted back to Cyprus time already. I am nearing the end of my trip and I will be back home tomorrow. As I stick my head outside the bedroom window I am greeted by early morning rolling mists which remind me of Droushia.
I get up early as I am keen to spend as much time as possible with Aunty Joyce and Uncle David and Kaye who is bringing Mum down from Balsall Common after her birthday weekend up with the Thomas family.
Kevin has programmed Google Maps as my satnav and I am hopeful that I will get there in one piece as this is not a journey I have done before. All packed up I say goodbye to my godmother Janet who I just love to pieces and I promise I will be back to see her soon - she was 83 in January and is such a live wire even though she had the most hideous fall last year. Alan had escaped to golf bless him but not before he had washed my car windscreen and relieved me of my newly acquired insect collection for which I thanked him.
The roller skate on wheels, Google maps and I make our way to Reading wher the only hold up is that part of the A303 that passes Stonehenge. The little roller skate has actually been a good car and I have forgotten all about driving an automatic for the time-being. As we trundle along in the glorious sunshine I realise I will miss the vibrant green and even the motorways which allow you to put your foot down now and again but to be fair I have missed John, the cats and Droushia more.
Apart from a little unscheduled dalliance with a one-way system in Caversham I arrive unscathed and Mum and Kaye are there having arrived just before me.
I hope that Mum has enjoyed herself in spite of the shaky start. John and I so wanted her to have the company of family and friends particularly on her birthday and I know that Janet and Alan and Jane and John have gone out of their way to make sure she has seen and done what she wanted when she was at Keinton Mandeville. We are so lucky to have them to call upon and for them to want to help us as much as they have and do. They are all such fabulous people. I know that Kaye organised some special things for Mum for her birthday and that Joyce and David got the family together last weekend and again today. Looks like Mum will be lucky enough to have Joyce and David visit in October and then Jane and John next February.
So anyway back to today and the five of us went to lunch at a lovely country pub which had been recommended by my cousin Jonathon. He really hit the mark with this place - it was lovely. We were toying with sitting outside but the tables were small so went indoors and were very glad we had done so as it rained heavily mid-meal. We all agreed it was a really lovely meal and enjoyed every minute. Mum is now a convert to sweet potato chips.
Our evening was filled with fun and laughter as various family members called in to see Mum - so lovely to see them all and we hope that they were serious when they said they might come and visit. It would be lovely to see them.
So a busy and long day tomorrow - hopefully there will be no issues when I return the roller skate and that assistance will be there and the flight on time. I am ready to go home now and re-establish a routine eve if that is just John, the cats and me snuggled up on the sofa for a few nights.
