Karma karma karma chameleon...

Today we were meeting up with the family and introducing them to the lovely Art Cafe in Polis where we managed to grab sufficient tables to accommodate the eight of us although we had to keep moving round to sit in the shade.  This was not as easy as it might sound as the tables are marble and iron and weigh an absolute ton or even ton and a half!  As you can see from the photograph our niece (and god-daughter) Alicia is no less camera shy this year so I am going to have to be clever if I am to capture her!!!

Mick admitted that this was not the sort of establishment that he might get Janice to frequent so he was glad that we had chosen it because it is a lovely relaxing spot and the cake today was epic and I don't know if our table ordered and cleared her out of the super-moist and orangey orange cake but for some reason my slice was absolutely gi-normous.

We had company midway through our coffee - we were very privileged to witness not one but two chameleons making their way around the garden.  We don't know if the first one was a male and was being followed by a lighter and smaller one which may have been a female or whether the first was mummy chameleon and the smaller one her baby but the larger one moved purposefully around once John had picked it up and put it in a safe place, the smaller one was not so positive and much slower but eventually managed to find a shady spot out of the way of humans.

Big boy/girl/mummy made it all the way up the shutters of the window (in the picture at the top of this blog) and could be seen on the topmost shutter surveying everything from a position of safety.  These were common Mediterranean chameleons (Chamaeleo chamaeleon) I believe although they are really not so common - some people can live on the island for years without seeing any and we saw two together.

We then took them down to Polis Square and pointed them in the direction of the various craft shops that are there - Viv apparently likes making things and it is always useful to know where these sort of places are if gifts need to be purchased - on this subject Viv celebrates her birthday on Sunday.

They started at the new Blue Oyster gifts where Alicia found something for her mum.  They plan to return to do gift shopping towards the end of their holibobs and will know where to find this shop, Mara Fessas, The Arches, and That Nice Shop which are all in a nice little loop around the square and then they can wander up to the calm of the Art Cafe for tea and stickies.

It is unusual for us to see the Square so busy but it is nice and there is a great atmosphere with people in holiday mode - John said we should come down more often - I pointed out that I am happy to do so but he never wants to go - in fact he has yet to swim in the sea this year!!

We left the family doing their own thing - they were planning a trip along the coast to Pomos and Pachyamos this afternoon - at least the olds were I think the kids had different ideas which involved the pool and the inflatables we had dropped off for them!

We did our shopping in a less frenetic Paps than it had been on Thursday - I needed a few things in readiness for lunch tomorrow with Mum.  I had thought she might enjoy a chicken and bacon salad as long as it it didn't contain cucumber, tomato or peppers which she doesn't like.

We had a visit from Di and Rob on their way back from having done their shopping - it was good to catch up with them as we haven't seen them since Monday night at the cheese festival.  The Bobster has a special birthday coming up next weekend bless him.

Once Di and Rob had gone John settled down to watch the Mighty Blades and I set about getting lunch ready for tomorrow so I wouldn't have too much to do.  I planned to marinade the chicken in yoghurt and sweet chili sauce and was washing out the pot and running my thumb around the rim when the bloody thing cut me so I had an industrial injury to contend with - it ain't so easy to cook when you have your thumb wrapped in kitchen roll, so much for my social conscience and trying to recycle.

The Mighty Blades scored early doors which was good, then they gave away a bloody stupid goal through poor defending which was not good and then they scored with almost the last kick of the ball in time added on which was bloody marvelous (apparently).  Thank the Lord for that!!
