So very pleased that today we woke to another nice day because Mum was coming up and we had planned to have lunch down by the coast. There is nothing worse than sitting outside eating if it is miserable!
We started out with a light breakfast of fresh fruit and yoghurt because we would be having lunch and introduced our guests to the delights of a pomelo and not just any pomelo this one was pink inside and they are the creme de la creme of pomelo in our opinion. This one has been lurking in our fruitbowl since Argy was here - she was on one of her famous 'cutting' expeditions and this one fell into her grasp and she gave it to us. We had left it in the fruitbowl to ripen (this can be difficult to ascertain) and we decided to have it today. We used to be given them all the time and we used to give them away because we didn't really know what they tasted like. There is quite a lot of effort in preparation for a smallish return because the peel and pith is about a centimetre thick!
John decided we should use up the yoghurt that was left over and make a cake so Mum could take some back with her. That was a fine idea until I realised the emergency eggs had been used for breakfast yesterday so I had to troll through tintyweb to find a recipe for an eggless lemon cake. This one was right up Mum's street as it was light and quite tart with the macerated lemon inside. Not really the best thing to eat before going out to lunch though!
Mum, Joyce and David went off to the Cemetery to see Dad. It was a chance for my Aunt and Uncle to say their goodbyes and then the three of them called in to see Klaus and Sheila. This gave John and I a chance to tidy up. As we have visitors next weekend I wanted to get the sheets on the spare bed washed and dried so took the opportunity to get them done.
It is lovely to hear Joyce and David talk about the possibility of coming back next year. We keep saying "when you come back next year we will..." We have managed to find places to visit and places to eat that they haven't been to before which is a bit of a miracle as they have been here so many times. We thought it would be good to go different places and then they wouldn't have memories of visiting them with Mum and Dad. My aunt keeps a diary, she has done so for years and years and years so we have been able to check what we were doing in previous years. In the mornings after we have had breakfast we have both been catching up on our respective diaries whilst listening to the dulcet tones of Alan Titchmarsh on Classic FM. I have now become a fan of the afternoon weekend show with Alexander Armstrong - who would have thought??
It was a little breezy down on the coast but it was a warm breeze so we were fine sitting outside for our lunch. It was quite busy at Yiallos - it appears he will be closing in November for the season which is a shame as we had hoped he would use the bit with curtains to provide indoor eating space in the winter but then I guess if you have had a busy summer you need the break. We all had a lovely lunch - Joyce and David were particularly impressed by their scampi meal which was served lightly breaded and with the tails on. Mum had chicken wings, John had spare ribs and I had my favourite Chicken Caesar Salad.
It was a very pleasant afternoon and we returned back to Droushia to chill before Mum, Joyce and David packed up and made their way back to Emba. John and I did next to nothing for the remainder of the day - it is lovely having visitors but we are feeling a little tired now!
