wooo hooooo ART!!!!

Woooooooo Hooooooo it's Monday I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mondays and my mornings art with Sheila and my lovely lunch with her and Klaus.  I don't know what I am going to do if Sheila and Klaus do sell their house and move away - I think I am just going to have to hold them hostage.  Because of all the visitors and what with one thing and another this picture seems to be taking me some time to complete.  Each of the beach huts takes me about a morning to finish and so based on that and as they are getting smaller it looks like I have about three weeks possibly four left before this picture is ready to go to its new home.  Sheila is on unicorns at the moment and between us there was a lot of sighing going on today as we struggled with the subject matter.  I am not a great one for straight lines it would seem so my next picture needs to be something less structured!!!

We had to do a mad dash down to Paphos this afternoon as we needed to find one large tile to create a hearth underneath the woodburner - Stephanos is coming on Wednesday to sort out all the pipework so John wanted to install it today and make sure if it was to be siliconed down that it was all dry and stable.  John had seen exactly what he wanted out the back of G&P's in Chloraka when he went down to get the tiles that will go behind the woodburner - I have no idea why he didn't buy it there and then but he said he wanted my opinion so you can guess what happened - it had got sold in the meantime and there was nothing else about that was suitable.  Sod's bloody law aka just our luck!

John went off in search of Angela who normally deals with our tile requirements and between her and the manager they came up with an alternative that was pretty close to what John had seen originally and they gave us discount so it ended up being a really good price.

You can get some fab tiles here and they seem to be quite reasonably priced certainly if you can find what you want 'out the back' which is a graveyard of leftovers they are really cheap.

I was having a nose around whilst John was in full on negotiating mode (for one tile) and came across these very attractive poppy tiles how pretty are they?  In the right place they would look stunning and they were huge - I think the three flower tiles were almost as tall as me!!!

Anyway negotiations complete we had to follow the manager in his Ford Fiesta across town to the warehouse to pick up our one tile.  This was easier said than done as the Manager was clearly related to Lewis Hamilton and had invoked KERS the moment he jumped in the car so it was all John could do to keep up with him.  He had one brake light out and apparently no indicators which worked and he was on the phone but John had a rough idea where he was heading so it wasn't too much of a problem thank goodness.

Now I have seen some random things in and around Paphos but this giant sized 'person' is one of the weirdest!  I thought the advertisement was going to be for a junk yard or something but apparently Nikandro Fotiz does sandblasting - OBVIOUSLY!!!!!

Our trip back to Droushia was a bit hairy - as we left the industrial estate we could see thick black smoke coming from somewhere across near Konia and then as we got up the hill heading to Tsada we were diverted because there had been a head on crash near the Periptero - it looked quite nasty with a tourist car involved and seemingly on the wrong side of the road.

My sister contacted me last night.  She has in her possession a plaque which looks to be copper and was presented at a horticultural show I thought to my great grandfather on Mum's side, Kaye thinks to granddad on Mum's side - I think I have a photograph somewhere of my mustachio'd great grandfather resplendent in his homburg hat stood next to an impressive array of fruit and veg with the plaque next to him.  I shall have to see if I can find it.  Anyway the point is that Kaye had seen a similar one on the Antiques Roadshow last night and it was worth a reasonably amount of money!

Kaye is in the process of trying to sort out our family tree concentrating on Mum's side - this is a fascinating project which should keep her well occupied in the long winter months - I have managed to find a few bits and pieces on the internet without signing up to any of the sites that require payment.

Suddenly realised that George and Pam's daughter Louise and her husband Malcolm arrive on Sunday - bugger I thought it was next Wednesday when John's mum arrives - will need to do some cleaning up at 11b tomorrow!!
