Down in Paphos...

So it was to be a Happy Birthday from across the miles to our neighbour Argy today and I had used my favourite internet florist Bunches to order a hand-tied bouquet to be delivered today and they did not let me down.  I have to say that the arrangement in vivid Autumnal colours looked every bit as good in the photograph Lakis took as it did on the internet.  So 'thank you' bunches and Kronia Polla to Argy who video-called us after she had been taken out for a birthday lunch.

We were going down to Paphos today combining meeting up with the electrician who will hopefully be able to put an ethernet cable from the lounge into the sunroom and to see Dip and Karen.  Karen returns home next week and we have only seen her once and that was with Nicky and Mark.  Dip is staying a little longer - long enough to settle his sister and her husband in.

On the subject of the electrician - he isn't someone we know personally but I had seen other people wanting similar work done and his name cropped up several times.  He was due to meet us at 2.00pm at Mum's and we had hoped to get it all sorted in terms of scoping the job and getting a price by the time she returned from pickleball.  It is very important to us to try and get stable television for her in the sunroom when the bad weather comes because that is a nice small area which gets lots of sunshine (if the sun is shining) and if it isn't is easy to heat and it is cosy for her and Fred and the accoustics are so much better than in the lounge with its high ceiling.  As it turned out he contacted me mid morning to say that he was going to be delayed but would be with us no later than 3.30pm which meant that it left us enough time to go for some lunch with Dip and Karen rather than a quick coffee if they were available.

It was yet another glorious day - a week into November and we were in short sleeves, shorts and flip flops!

We were in search of a cap for Kenny's brake fluid reservoir so had to come down the length of the Mesoghi avenue calling in to all the various car part companies en route but to no avail.  We had had a bit of an issue with 'spongy brakes' and John had hoped it was the fact that the existing cap seemed not to make a tight seal but we think it may well be something much more serious than that because the fluid level remains stable and there is no sign of any leakages which may mean the master cylinder and if so that is not going to be cheap which is a bit of a bugger but we cannot afford to ignore the problem obviously so next time we go down to Polis we will drop it off at Andreas's and get him to have a look at it and then I can see what John and my Christmas present is going to be whoo hoo I am such a lucky girl.

We arrived at Dip and Karens - this is the view of their pool area which, with the lovely blue skies and the clear water was looking really quite inviting.  They were here this time last year - I think maybe that is when their purchase was completed and it has been a busy year for their apartment as they have marketed it on Air BnB very successfully.  They now seem to have got the issue of the roof resolved and all the parties affected have paid up which is good news for Dip and Karen.

We ended up all going to the Mall as Karen had some shopping to do for the apartment and I had a list of things we needed from Jumbos so we ate first and shopped afterwards. Sometimes when we eat at the Mall John and I treat ourselves to a KFC - because let's face it sometimes nothing quite hits the spot like the Colonel's original recipe!!!  Karen and Dip opted for Chinese - if we ever took Dad to eat at the Mall he and I would always share a Chinese - before Kings Mall opened in Paphos we would occasionally go to My Mall in Limassol and there used to be a fab Chinese there, that would be Dad and I sorted and John and Mum would share a KFC - she used to call it her 'one weakness'.

We headed our separate ways, did our shopping and then shot off to mum's to tick the items off of her list so she now has a draught excluder on her front door and all her clocks and timers are properly set.  The electrician actually arrived much earlier than expected at around 2.40pm and having looked at what was required will return on Tuesday to do the job which is great news.

We brought home with us our newly refurbished mantel clock thanks to Graham.  We have put it in place and are letting it run for a while to let it settle in.  It is keeping good time and we have the chime set so it is chiming the correct hour but currently when it comes to the Pompey Chimes it is doing a Les Dawson i.e. playing the right notes but not necessarily in the right order but it is so good to have it back - that clock was been part of my life for all my life.  I remember listening to it tick as I lay on the sofa poorly waiting for Dad to come home from work.
