Good times - great friends...

Today we were having one of our regular visits from Nicky and Mark - friends who bought Mum and Dad's house in Emba apparently well over 10 years ago - blimey where does that time go???  This year we decided we would pencil in our visits throughout the year and as a result we have seen each other more this year than at any other time.

John and I were up early - it was a really nice bright start to the day and Nicky had text to ask whether it was shorts or jeans weather and I told her shorts particularly as both John and I had already been in for a swim.  Little did I know that shortly after Nicky and Mark arrived the weather took a complete downturn and we had a terrific storm in the afternoon with thunder and lightning and even some hail thrown in for good measure.  Fortunately it wasn't cold in the house so we were fine.

The houses opposite us, which had previously been purchased by an English builder and which he had started to do up before going bust, have remained empty for all the time we have lived here and probably for something more like 10 years.  Recently the two end ones have been put up for sale and there has been quite a lot of interest but so far neither seem to have been sold and there hasn't been any activity on the other eight which I guess the bank feels are less attractive to prospective purchasers.  If you can look beyond the hugely overgrown gardens and the general air of neglect then with a bit of imagination these houses can become attractive little homes.

Nicky and Mark were interested in going to have a look - I have always got the impression that Mark would quite like to live in a village away from the hustle and bustle of city life but they are currently both working and their work is better suited to living down near Paphos but they are beginning to plan for their future and so are open to investigating all sorts of options.

With the weather deteriorating we decided to slob out in the conservatory and watch some TV whilst catching up on what has been happening since we last saw one another.  We had a light lunch because I had cooked the pork in honey, lime and ginger with the potato and onion casserole and veggies that I had done for Aunty Joyce and Uncle David last weekend and I had knocked up my packet mix red velvet cake which I was going to serve with some forest fruits and cream.  It was supposed to be griddled pineapple in brandy and sweet chili sauce but the pineapple was awful when I cut it up - dry and tasteless.

Our big Saturday night in was spent playing UNO - normal and radical after we had had our evening meal (which seemed to go down very well) and a fair bit of wine!  Sheffield United were on the TV and John kept half an eye on their miserable defeat at the hands of Derby (now called Frank Lampard's Derby apparently).  The Kirby's are early risers and so therefore early to bed as a result which is fine by us as we are all rubbish at staying up too late!
