Today it is the 18th December and after the horrible weather of yesterday this morning we woke to clear blue skies. It was actually really lovely and warm outside and so I grabbed the opportunity to get my washing done and out on the line. I had done some yesterday and it had ended up back in the machine being spun and that is so irritating - I hate having washing hanging around the house - Cypriot houses suffer with damp at the best of times so you really don't want to introduce any extra if you can help it. It is lovely having visitors but with two different couples the last two weekends I had two bed changes to get washed and put away.

We had some Christmas Cards to deliver and took the opportunity to call in and see John and Susan before they return to the UK for Christmas. It was a lovely drive to their house and we took the 'rough' top road with some trepidation after the heavy rains but were pleasantly surprised to see that the really bad bit near their house has now been properly tarmac'd which makes a huge difference to the approach to their home. Susan was out walking Zak but arrived back just in time for us to exchange our best wishes and we plan to catch up in the New Year.
In Paps it was relatively quiet and in the last couple of days they have had all the open shelved chiller cabinets enclosed with glass doors - it looks so much tidier. We managed to get everything we wanted and John even managed to nip over to Elias and get his Christmas hair cut - not before time as he was in danger of looking like he had a bit of a comb-over! Food shopping done - at least for now but I have a sneaky feeling we may have some panic purchases before Christmas Day arrives!
We returned home and settled down to sort out our viewing over the Christmas Period but not before I had got my laundry in off of the line all beautifully dried and smelling lovely which was a result. We had been invited to the Community Office this evening to watch the school children's carol concert so had a couple of hours spare before we needed to get ready.
OMG what happened to the weather???????? We went from blue skies to monsoon conditions with thunder and lightning thrown in.
Within a very short period of time the front garden had flooded and we had several inches of water lapping up against the front door. The situation wasn't helped by the fact that the deluge coming off of the roof and into the water butt was more than it could cope with. It was so bad that we couldn't have gone out of that door even in an emergency. We said we would wait until 6.00pm before absolutely vetoing going out but as the time approached it was clear that it would be madness as we would have to go out of the back door and would have got soaked even before we left the garden. It was a shame but couldn't be helped. Mum text to say the conditions were the same down her way - she had been due to go out to the Classic Cinema club but she and her friend Sue had sensibly knocked it on the head.
The dreadful weather continued through the night. John pumped out our pool before we went to bed as it was perilously close to overflowing and we put a towel at the front door just in case and were glad that we did because some water did seep through. It kept us awake - so much so that we were up at 4.00am checking to see if the pool needed pumping out again - it didn't then but it did when we got up a could of hours later.
