Today was a better start to the day but as we were going to play pickleball and had a million things we wanted to try and get sorted beforehand there was no chance to get back out into the garden plus my poorly finger was exactly that, poorly so I needed to protect it so that I would be able to play.
We have a leaky tap in the kitchen which John has tried to sort but it would appear it is officially knackered and has got a bit tarnished so we think we will bite the bullet and replace it which means trolling around the various shops in Paphos that sell taps. This will be a bigger job than just replacing the tap because John has found that one of the isolation taps for the water supply is also leaking and it was installed before the kitchen cabinet and the kitchen fitters obviously didn't ever expect anyone to want to get access to them.
On our way down the Mesoghi Avenue we swung by the Droushiotis shop which sells all things related to motors. Mum had a little incident the other week trying to avoid a dog that was running loose and ended up with a puncture and her hubcap pinged off and was nowhere to be found. John went in to find some replacement ones and got a set of four for 25 euros which he fitted after pickleball and Mum was absolutely delighted which was good. From the road the shop looks tiny and dingy but when you pull up outside you realise it is huge and modern.
We took the opportunity to go into Lidl as John has seen a battery and alternator checking device advertised on sale and as he has been having issues with Lakis' battery he thought it would be a good thing to have to hand and it was less than five euros so would hardly break the bank. When we see things like this advertised in the Lidl magazine which Mum kindly lets us have we make arrangements to go down and get whatever it is we have seen only to find they have none but today we were lucky - obviously the inhabitants of Paphos have no idea what these little gizmos are or that they might need one so there was a whole section jammed full of the things.
We then started our quest to find a replacement kitchen mixer tap with facility for drinking water - it is called a three way mixer and we wanted to find something a bit stylish but not too expensive. The shops in Paphos which sell kitchen and bathroom-ware are very stylish and prices can be very reasonable - there are shapes and sizes and colours and finishes to meet every requirement.

What constitutes a stylish tap?
Well we went into one shop and fell in love with the big black beast with pull out hose for swilling pots which was also available in grey but with our sensible heads on realised it would be too big for our little kitchen and might look daft.
We then found another which we quite liked and which was considerably cheaper but didn't have the pull out hose facility. We couldn't buy one there and then because we needed to ensure that we had sufficient room to push the levers back towards to the window and ideally I would have like a brushed nickel finish - the water here is so hard that it is difficult to keep chrome taps looking shiny and on a couple of occasions the limescale remover I have used has destroyed the 'chrome' finish.
I don't know why today was such a good day at pickleball but everyone seemed to be on top form as we had some tremendous games and some right old laughs. I like to think it was my new playing list which took me forever to sort out but which seems to rotate the players satisfactorily whilst allowing mum to sit out every other game.
As we left the weather was taking a turn for the worst and a thunder storm was rolling in from over the sea carrying with it some impressive bolts of lightning. We managed to get home with it hot on our tails but at least we managed to get from the car to the house whilst it was still dry.
Can you believe I got a Christmas Card today - to be fair it was delivered to Mum in the week but even so it is February for goodness sake!!! This clearly got very very lost in the Christmas melee and as it originated in Spain is probably very well travelled - anyway many thanks to Ron and Gill for remember us!
We still have a missing parcel which Laura and Mark posted at the end of November but having received this card today we are not giving up hope that it may arrive at some point.
We managed to pick up a booked chicken from Paps on our way home so that was tea sorted. We had earmarked a programme to watch on catch up before it disappeared from our list - it was a Channel 5 programme broadcast last week about the demise of Whitney Houston. Very sad really to see such a fabulous singer and beautiful woman spiral out of control and then lose her life at such a young age.
