I am having a Sunday off cooking which is lovely and thanks to the fact that Mum wanted her car MOT'd and we have to return it so the plan was that either John or I would drive down in her car and pick her up (and Jane and John as they want to have lunch with us) and then the other would drive down separately and we would meet at Tavernaki on the Mesoghi Avenue for Sunday lunch.  John decided he would take Mum's car down and sort out a socket in her house where she had a problem and pick up Jane and John and I would follow on afterwards which is what we did.

We have a new car-wash in Droushia - it is just outside our estate and is getting bigger, fed by the continuous rain that we have at the moment or any waste water due to someone pumping out their pool.  This is a long and wet winter and one which I will be glad to see the back of, but according to the weathermen and their seaweed that isn't going to be any time soon.

My journey down to Tavernaki was not without incident.  The 'Egyptian's' Road is quite treacherous, fortunately the dead cat has now been removed but the running water is now gushing towards the drains at the bottom so unless you approach at a reasonable speed you are in danger of not stopping - I know this now so I had the car in low to ensure I would be ok - what I had not accounted for was that when I got to Stroumbi and joined the main road the rainwater had brought down a whole load of shingle and loose stone so although I was driving quite slowly when I came to stop at the junction I just couldn't and so over shot - fortunately there were no cars coming in either direction otherwise it could have been quite dangerous.

We were lunching at Tavernaki which, as we learned today, is moving on 15th March next door but one to the Acropolis building at the traffic lights and which is bigger and has better parking and I suspect Tavernaki have become victims of their own success so have 'spread' out from their original small building and this sort of unregulated expansion is being clamped down upon by the incumbent Paphos Mayor so a move to a purpose built building will help them no end.  Four of us had opted for the three course Sunday Lunch, Jane was choosing from the menu - either way we had a lot of food and drink all for 10 euros a head.  Sunday lunch comprised a nice home-made soup followed by roast beef which was actually very nice and tender with all the trimmings, apple strudel, flambe'd pineapple, coffee and a brandy plus a drink with the meal which for me was a gin and tonic - an absolute bargain and we shall definitely do it again when they have moved.

It was a day of sunshine and showers - most definitely showers on the way home - which is what we have now come to expect for this winter but we had been well fed and watered so I was happy not to have had to cook today and was ready to get things organised for Jane's birthday lunch tomorrow which we are having at ours.

As I said I am struggling to find something as a birthday gift that Jane will be able to take back home with her so everything has small - in addition to the artisan soaps I found and the hearts I made I have made her an Easter Bunny which has taken days to dry but has, finally and so I came home and painted and varnished him.  It is just a bit of fun but I hope she likes him.

Whilst I was doing that John realised that Lakis car had a flat tyre AGAIN - same problem, different tyre - the valve was leaking.  Only problem was that he had parked it close in to the kerb and in so doing had made it impossible to get a jack in to lift the car up.  He managed to get the offending tyre off but had to leave the car up on axle stands as it started to rain AGAIN.  He is going to have to shoot down to Polis tomorrow morning to get it sorted.  It is just one of those things but every time we text Lakis it seems to be about a problem.

I tackled the pudding element of our meal for tomorrow because I thought if I did it tonight and it was gopping I could make something else tomorrow - this is a traditional Cypriot Orange Pie made from dried filo pastry and a sort of egg custard with an orange syrup and I have to say it was bloomin' fabulous and I will definitely be doing that again!
