Sunday and a bit of sunshine.

Thankfully today was a vast improvement on Saturday.  I had contacted Mum yesterday to tell her to check the weather before setting off because we do not want her driving when the conditions were like they were yesterday when you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.  My Sunday Lunch meal could be transported to Emba if needs be but as it turned out I needn't have worried and the weather was kind for the most part.  We had some bright spells, some cloud, some hail and some chilly winds.

We think we have had it bad up here and in some ways we are not really surprised being high above sea level but pity the poor city dwellers on the coast in Limassol.  My friend Louise (Ooh La La Louise) who catered the afternoon tea which we held in our garden for our Silver Wedding Anniversary in 2016 has a tea shop in the old part of Limassol, very close to the sea and this was the view that greeted her today - the street and therefore her business completely awash and apparently she had flooding at her home as well - I believe she lives somewhere near or in Ypsonas which is further away from the sea.

This is heart breaking as flood water brings with it so much dirt and unknown dirt at that and often problems only come to light after things have begun to dry out.  This makes me feel that any little bits of bubbling paint we might have are absolutely nothing to worry about.  In fact this year the inside of the house has escaped practically problem free and the outside it has only been the dodgy Dulux paint that I have already mentioned - we have failed so far to find anyone interested in looking into the issue so we are a bit loathe to repaint the wall with the paint that remains in case we get the same problem

The wet seems to be affecting everyone and everything!!!  This enterprising snail managed to find some safety when it fell into our pool and having clung on it got a reprieve and John rescued it and tossed it over the wall so that it could survive albeit not in our garden.  I have yet to check out the water temperature - safe to say it is too bloomin' cold to put my hand in to fish it out to check.

My attention was turned to today's lunch which was a fridge surprise amalgam using everything I could throw together to make a decent meal.  We had some potatoes left over from Thursday evening which I was in two minds as to whether to roast or leave in the brown butter and serve boiled.  I asked John who said he had enjoyed them so much on Thursday boiled in the butter so I decided to leave them that way but to zhuzh them up with some freshly chopped herbs from the garden which inluded mint, lemon thyme, oregano and rosemary.

I had found a recipe which enabled me to use up chicken (stripped from a rotisserie one we picked up from Paps on Friday), white wine, leek, apple, bacon and cream which were all in the fridge along with some chicken stock and some fresh thyme - all of which I had to hand.  It may not have been very colourful but it was absolutely delicious and I would cook it again and you can find the recipe HERE and on my food page if you want to try it.

We had a nice lunch and sat down and watched an episode of Escape to the Chateau before having a slab of banana cake which tasted far better than it looked - in fact Mum thought it was the best I had made.  I love Escape to the Chateau because Angel reminds me of a mix between my friends Gemma Woolmington and Sally Allan and because I love the Chateau and their renovations fill me with all sorts of ideas and John with dread!!

We had a quiet evening before an early night - I had had some pretty awful nightmares last night which had led to a restless night's sleep for me and therefore for John too - I don't know what triggered them off!  Before turning in I got to the end of the crochet cover I am making for a cushion we have in the lounge which was cream and no longer fitted in with our colour scheme - who knew Battleship Grey could be so attractive!!
