Bloody weather...

Today, the first day of Kenna's holiday did not pan out as expected - the weather let us down AGAIN and so we were confined to barracks as there were huge downpours throughout the day.  Kenna slept in after her late arrival and on getting up John went for a cuddle with Chivers only to find he had a huge gash in his groin area.  It wasn't bleeding and didn't seem to be causing him any discomfort so I put some gel on it and then on closer inspection we decided it would be wise to take him to the vets.  Thankfully there is currently a full time vets in the practice in Prodromi which is only 15 minutes away max - 10 if you put your foot down so John shot off with Chivers.  The vet was not so concerned about the wound save that it would need stitching, she was more concerned with a 'mass' that she found around one of his nipples which she thought needed further investigation as it was probably infection but not knowing what caused the gash or how it happened she was worried that there could be a foreign body inside.  Further investigation would be needed so Chivers was to spend today and possibly tomorrow in Prodromi whilst he is treated for the infection and then he is going down to Peyia where his surgery will take place.  John was beside himself as Chivers is most definitely his boy.

Kenna finally emerged, well rested and with some gifts for us which included some very nice looking chocolate which I am planning to save for a special occasion.  She also brought me a nice little oil burner for making the room smell nice and a book about cat IQ - the first test was to poke a pen in your cat's ear to see how he/she reacts - this is a complete waste of time with Charlie of course who, with his facial nerve injury, has no sense in one of his ears - consequently he scored badly on that count although his reaction to food gave him top marks!

In return I am donating one of my pictures to Kenna which I hope she will take to her house in Brittany and find it a suitable home.  Ultimately, when she retires, her plan was to go and live in the house she has had their for the past 15 years, Brexit has thrown a spanner in the works because the benefits you might receive as a member of the EU living in a different EU country may well be revoked so it is impossible to plan for health care, pension payments just at the moment.

Brexit was dealt another blow last night when a vote was split down the middle and that poisoned dwarf Bercow used his casting vote as Speaker of the House of Commons and threw the whole process into further disarray.

We may well have voted to stay but like many other now just wish the process, whichever way that may go, to be done and dusted.  This will have been the most divisive time in UK Politics and one where rifts may never be healed.  Until things are settled we, like many others, are in limbo - all we can do is make sure we have regularised our position here as far as possible.  This we have done with our permanent residency, Cypriot driving licence and registration for Tax and GESY (health service).

Kenna has been making friends with the remaining cats.  Chivers is a bit of a favourite although she thinks he should be called Garfield because of his shape and size.  She is going to go home covered in cats hairs - the lint roller I have her seems to do nothing to get out ginger fur!

She was grateful for the quiet day that had been enforced on us by the weather and to be fair we were all a bit tired after her late arrival last night.

We spent the afternoon trying to decide upon our runners in the Grand National which takes place on Saturday - I have no idea about form - I usually go for a name I like so my euros will be riding on Mall Dini and One for Arthur.  I think this is probably a complete waste of time but will give me something to shout for come the day!!!  That is if our TV system is back up and running - apparently this evening it was the subject of some Cyber Attack and was taken down temporarily.

We had a late brunch of pittas, halloumi, lounza, dips and salad and followed this up much later with my famous, or is that infamous Hunter's Chicken, Crispy Wedges and Coleslaw which seemed to go down a treat.

Kenna had brought a film with her that her sister had recommended as easy watching and funny.  It always worries me when you see "a laugh out loud movie" emblazoned across the cover but to be fair this really was very funny in places and rounded of the day quite nicely.
