As you know I am rarely in front of the camera but on Wednesday I was snapped along with Diana and Clare when we went to Fitos. So here we are, three fellow Drouseians, or should that be the Three stooges? See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil? or I actually prefer the Three Graces, Goddesses of Charm, Beauty and Creativity although I am not sure which is which!!!
Today, after an absence of nearly seven months, our neighbours Lakis, Argy and Kia return. I cannot believe that they have been away for so long but am thrilled that they will be coming to much better weather now than if they had come a week or so ago. In the interim a lot of things have happened, not least that Argy broke her wrist and is suffering as a consequence as the healing process seems to be slow and painful. Although I know she will want to get 2B back to her standard of order and cleanliness we thought it would be nice to get all the furniture out and in place so that when they eventually got here this afternoon they could relax without having to shift stuff out of their way.
John was going to the airport this afternoon to pick them up. He had planned to call in on his cousin Karen on the way but she had text asking where she could go to get antibiotics because she was suffering with an throat infection. To cut a long story short she fell victim to the Cypriot inability to take into consideration anyone else when it comes to parking so was boxed in on Bank Holiday Easter Monday having to wait until she could get the car out from the Harbour carpark and get to a chemist.
Just at the moment we are experiencing those two or three days when a million, trillion tiny little beetles invade and dive bomb the swimming pools where they sit on the surface, wait to be rescued and then fly off only to fly back and do it all again. John did his best to make Lakis pool look clean and tidy and we placed the outside furniture where it normally goes and I gave the floors a sweep out - I know that Argy will want to mop them but at least when they walked in it would look more like home than it did when it was all piled up inside.
After the dreadful weather over our extended Winter nearly every house has suffered with some sort of damage. Not known for their build quality at the best of times, Cypriot houses are a nightmare, with damp being a real issue so even though 2B has been shut up for nearly seven months it has escaped relatively lightly which is a testament to the quality of Lazarus's workmanship. We are relieved although it is still difficult to point out issues to owners - they are at least nothing compared to what we have heard happened to the house next door (3A) where Argy's brother skimped on his refurbishment and paid the price. We still cannot quite work out what is going on with the roof which spans 3A and 3B where the overhangs were removed and where now they are desperately trying to divert and rainwater into gutters rather than down into the buildings.
The Easyjet flight from Luton was slightly delayed but John was down and waiting at the picnic area waiting for Lakis' call to say they had got their bags and after a brief stop for some essential supplies at Paps Bakers (one of the only places open on this Bank Holiday Monday) they were soon back at their home in Droushia and ready to relax.
They were appreciative of the fact that they could just walk in and the place was reasonable square. They had had a very early start so were all a bit jet-lagged. Kia said her back was playing her up so she retired to her room and Lakis, Argy, John and I went out for something to eat. I drove and we headed down to Latchi where we could guarantee there would be something open. We opted for Molos and had a lovely meal together. It is great to see them back and I know that they will take a few days to settle back in, they have some visitors coming and a wedding to attend and a bit of maintenance to deal with on the house but at least this year their stay should be much less fraught than last year when they had building work done and on the day after they finished, and were preparing to enjoy the result, the building work was started next door!
