Not so good news....

Sadly, overnight my Aunt's health deteriorated, not helped by the fact that she was not able to take her pain relief at the prescribed intervals and so when I got up my Uncle and I decided it would be best to get her back to hospital where they could make her more comfortable.  We called the family and then the paramedics.  This all brought back memories of my Dad but I pushed this firmly to the back of my mind so we could deal with the task in hand.  The Ambulance crew came really quickly and were really lovely but both my Uncle and I agreed that they only looked about 12.

We had done the right thing because by the time it came to getting my Aunt into the ambulance the pain was so bad she could hardly walk.  Jonathan accompanied her in the ambulance whilst Catherine and Uncle David made their way separately to A&E.  I was left alone in the house and busied myself tidying up and making beds, organising the fridge and washing up and then waited for news.

Catherine kindly text me sometime later to say that one or other of them would swing by and pick my up to have lunch at their house.  I have never been there - it is what I think is described as an Edwardian Villa which they have extended over the 20 years they have lived there and it occupies three stories of lovely period features.

Catherine is a gardener and her garden reminded me of the one we created in Glenthorne Avenue all lush and green with a beautiful flowering hop, climbing hydrangeas, tree ferns and hostas.  It was so beautiful, a real oasis of calm. What a fantastic job she has done.

I have never actually spent any time with Catherine before - I rather wish that I had as I really took to her and think we could have been good friends, this may be put to the test as she and Jonathan both expressed and interest in coming to visit.  I hope they do - I think it would be fun.

Uncle David has remained cheerful and optimistic throughout bless him and after lunch we returned to Tredegar Road and then a little later he went back to the hospital and I remained at home taking the opportunity to read one of Aunty Joyce's many books and also kept Mum, John and Kaye abreast of the unfolding situation at the hospital.

During the course of the afternoon scans were taken and a problem found by way of a mass which seems to have interfered with the bowel thus causing the pain she was experiencing.  They will need to take a biopsy and get her stabilised before they can decide what to do next.

I decided to stay an additional night so that Uncle David would not be alone in the house and then I could see how things were and if all was ok would continue with my journey down to Somerset as planned only one day later.  I know that David appreciated my company this evening as we sat together with a glass of wine and some cheese and biscuits.  He looked tired and a little bewildered by the events of the last couple of days which were so very unexpected - Aunty Joyce is NEVER ill.  I was just grateful that this had not happened whilst they were staying in Cyprus but there had been absolutely no sign.

Kevin the Kite didn't put in an appearance all day - it was as if he knew Aunty Joyce was not around.  Let's hope for a good night's sleep tonight as I have a longish drive tomorrow which starts by travelling through Reading - this is always a challenge so I hope to god the woman on Google Maps doesn't let me down.
