Today I had arranged a special treat for my lovely friend Hazel to get her away from the stresses and stains of the forthcoming marriage of her son Jordan to his fiancee Abi. I had organised a day at the seaside complete with a Sally's Fish Camp hamper at Weymouth which was to be delivered by Sally (Allan) herself and enjoyed by the three of us. Sally had suggested we went to Weymouth by train so that we could then both enjoy a glass or two of Fizz and so Hazel had organised a taxi to take us to and from the station - PERFICK!!!I
Perfick save for the fact that it decided to hoof it down practically all day!!!
Undeterred we set off on our adventure. My return ticket from Yeovil Pen Mill to Weymouth was the princely sum of £10 and Hazel's with her railcard a mere £6.60 - and to think that the taxi to and from was more than that!
It was half term so the little four carriaged train was full of excited children and excited grandparents going off to the seaside but sadly the rain was very persistent so I guess they had to make alternative arrangements. By the time we pulled into Weymouth station the fog was so thick you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.
Sally, who had daughter Molly unexpectedly in tow, was running her customary 10 minutes late but Haze and I sheltered in the station until she arrived in a flurry of blonde quiff and laughter.
We decided that the beach was most definitely out for the day and we headed off to the Seaside Boarding House at Burton Bradstock for a cracking cup of coffee and piece of freshly made coffee and walnut cake but sadly no view.
As we were leaving we had to pull in to let a car pass along what is a one vehicle wide track. The driver was Billy Bragg - THE Billy Bragg and Sally, Haze and I were suitably impressed but bless Molls she had absolutely no idea who he was - oh the youth of today!!! Anyway THE Billy Bragg lives in the house next door to the Seaside Boarding House.
We trundled back to Sally's house which is in the
most idyllic and beautiful location except we couldn't see anything - on a good day you can see the spit and the swans of Abbotsbury across in the distance - today we couldn't even see the perimeter fencing of the farm field outside the front door.
I had given Sal her Oyster picture at the Boarding House - and she was thrilled - she found a place for it alongside the picture of the lobster and the crab I had done for her last year.
We were right royally entertained by Molly who has turned into a charming, fascinating, articulate and self-assured young lady - a million miles from the stoic, silent Buddha she was as a child.

Our beach picnic was held indoors which on reflection was probably preferable as we didn't get sand in our sandwiches and we four girlies were able to sit around chatting although Molly clearly found some of the conversation a tad gross!!!
Our food was fabulous and such a nice treat for Hazel who is a pescatarian. I am still not sure about brown crab meat though but the white was fabulous as were the crevettes.
All too quickly it was time to set off back to the railway station and we caught our train home with just seconds to spare.
What a fabulous day!!! We were knackered on our return - I blame the fizz!!! I retired to bed early-ish and started to read the book I had picked up at the Charity shop near my Aunt and Uncles - Michael Morpurgo's The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips - OMG what a sweet book - I think it is probably more aimed at the children's market but I am enjoying it very much.
