We were having a busy day today which included a trip down to Paphos which we didn't relish because it is hot and sticky at the best of times and worse it was to go and exchange items or take items back which can sometimes be an issue so we had been steeling ourselves for today.
Before we set off John went across the road to clean the bottom of Lakis's pool which involved going in. It was a beautiful morning and John took a selfie to capture the colour of their deep blue pool and the clear blue skies - we hope that the weather in Spilia has improved because they arrived to rain. I busied myself mopping the floors after our visit from Jasmine and Frances who were no trouble at all but our pool is so close to the conservatory it is inevitable that some water ends up there.
So we set off mid morning and decided to stop at Arabica and have a breakfast bap and drink and forego lunch out. John's coffee and my tea had just arrived when the man sitting behind us called out and said "you are from Droushia - I recognise you" and promptly insisted on paying for our drinks. What a lovely man and probably quite a good one to know as he works for Keo!
Anyway he will be up for the Halloumi Festival on Tuesday night and we shall ensure that we find him and buy him a drink.
This very kind gesture from someone who is really no more than a stranger was so heart-warming - it made John and I feel really good and we hoped then that we would not face and issues sorting out all our various bits and pieces before we called in to see Mum and have a drink with her. No pickleball means that she now has two days a week when something was happening and now it is not and worse the shop closes for three weeks so for a while she a lot of time to fill and we hope to rectify that as much as we are able.
We finished our breakfast baps and our drinks and girded our loins ready to go do battle...
When I say it is hot in Paphos - today at just after 11.00am it was 41 degrees and very humid - I find it so difficult to cope when it is like this but our first port of call was the Mall which would be air conditioned. We were taking back a pair of shoes which I bought for John. He had bought a brown pair the day we went to pick up Hazel and liked them so much he asked me to get him a blue pair with I took her for some retail therapy. Unfortunately for some reason the blue pair were considerably narrower. So we sought out the lady that had sold us the brown pair and used our limited Greek and she very happily exchanged the blue slip-on shoes for a brown lace up pair which should have been more expensive but which she let us have for the same price. Result!!!!
We then went to Paphos Home Market to return some plastic 'trellis' which they did without any problem and even better managed to find some spare bolts for our garden furniture which was missing one and gave them to John. Result number two!!!

We then swung by the Sklavenitis supermarket on the Mesoghi Avenue because Mum had bought John some Newkie Brown Ale which was on offer and he wanted to top up his beer stocks for the forthcoming Premier League season which starts Saturday.
He grabbed the last three bottles of Newkie and toyed with the idea of trying a bottle of this Ginger Tom but wasn't prepared to pay the price being asked for a small 330ml bottle although subsequently I have looked it up on the internet and the supermarket wasn't over charging. This is obviously a very specialist beer and strong 6.0% ABV!!
We ventured upstairs as there was a sale on in the clothes department and John managed to find himself a pair of shorts and a couple of t-shirts at real bargain prices which is good because he struggles to find things here that fit him and we don't like to keep asking his Mum to bring things over with her. Anyway this was result number three.
From here we went on down to the Old Town to pick up the jewelry that I has having repaired and I had misread the text telling me it was ready thinking that they closed at 3.00pm - it was 1.45pm and as we pulled up Maron was just locking the door to go home as they actually close at 1.30pm. I was able to grab her attention and she happily re-opened and I managed to get the jewelry - I would have been so pee'd off if I had missed her - my fault I know but this was result number four.
We called in to see Mum who had been an absolute diamond and gone and got John some Ales that were on offer in Lidl so he is fully stocked and ready for the start of the season and beyond as he wont be consuming that amount in one afternoon!!! Cheers Mum you are a star xxxxx
Prior to getting to Mum's we had had some issues with the Pug - we think it was complaining about the heat but periodically it refused to change gear which is not good. I text Marianna to see if Andreas was open this afternoon and tomorrow and she said yes so we shot off to get the car to him so that he could have a look at it. We got to him only to find that he is closed for two weeks as from tomorrow - brilliant Marianna - I wouldn't mind but I did text you in Greek to avoid confusion!!
We were both shattered after our day in the great Metrolops so went to bed relatively early but it was hot and I couldn't get settled so got up at around 2.00am to get some fresh air. I wandered down the front path to see if I could find Boris as the other three were all in. As I got to the end my path was crossed by Mrs Tiggy Winckle - I have seen a hedgehog in the road on several occasions and I have a feeling she/he may be living in our carport somewhere - I hope so and I hope he/she is safe. Boris came bounding up and was somewhat shocked to see this small spiky thing coming in his direction.
John was hot too so we decided to try and sleep on the daybed but the combination of the sonic bird scarer, clock and solar lighting going on and off proved too much - we went back to our bedroom.
