Today was a Tuesday with a difference because I was going down to Emba to make up the numbers for pickleball and to see Mum. Actually in the end I had a text from Tina who is temporarily back on the island and she was asking if there was any chance of a game so told her to come today and again on Thursday which will ease the pressure as five is most definitely better than four.
I took the opportunity to do a bit of me shopping which included a trip to London Road, Cycleband and Jumbos and several junk/charity shops in search of a small table which I can 'upcycle' for the decked area with the day bed and something which I could use as a footstool for the same area. I had sent Hazel a picture to show her that this area is ready and waiting for her to take the weight off her feet. I found a table in the PAWS charity shop where the man who served me was exceptionally helpful and then I found something that I could convert into a footstool in another shop near Emba. Tomorrow I have earmarked to get the garden absolutely up to scratch for Hazel's visit and then Thursday is my cleaning day.
It was a nice to have time to get some of the last finishing touches for our garden - we have been working very hard in that area - we still have plans - the outside shower and replacing one of the metal gazebos with something more permanent.
Mum is good and we had a nice little session of pickleball this afternoon with Carol, Jeff, Mum and
Tina, which is a group that I don't normally play with so it makes for a nice change and ensures that our rent will be covered for this month.

I have to say a big "Thank You" to Mum for going to Lidl for us and getting a selection of ice-creams and lollies which hopefully I will get back to Droushia and John safe and sound. Mum did offer me one when we got back from pickleball but I thought I should leave the boxes intact.
I went back to Mum's for a chat and a cold drink and a cuddle with Fred who we had thought was most definitely Dad's cat but who actually just likes to be loved and have his head stroked. He is such good company for Mum - it would just be nice to have some idea roughly what sort of age he might be.
We were going out early this evening so I couldn't stay too long with Mum and she said she would be at sixes and sevens this week because I am not normally there after pickleball on a Tuesday, it is normally a Friday so she was going to be thinking it was Friday all day!
My trip home was uneventful and you will be pleased to know that the ice-creams and lollies got home in one piece - they may not be in the freezer too long!!!
It was a quick turn round as we were due out at 6.00pm (except that Mina thought I had said 6.30pm so it needn't have been quite so quick!!).
This evening we were meeting up with Mina and her friend 'Storm' who had come for a week to cheer her up. Readers may not be aware that Mina and long term partner/wife Clare have separated which is very sad and Mina is struggling a bit to come to terms with being on her own. Richard aka 'Storm' is an old friend and a really interesting character. The reason for his eye-patch is that his eye-sight was badly affected by measles - my eyesight was affected by measles, hence I have worn glasses since I was about three years old so this was of great interest to me. Storm doesn't like the appearance of his left eye so prefers to keep it covered over which gives him a real air of mystery.
We had an absolutely fabulous meal at Fitos - we sat outside instead of at our usual indoor table which was ok except it was a bit windy and became a bit cool as the full moon began to rise in preparation for the lunar eclipse later on.
In addition to the main meals we ordered we were given cheese and wine cured lounza, lentils and boiled lamb and vegetables before the salad and dips and pitta bread. Main courses were fabulous and then we had beautifully chilled and ripe water melon washed down with drinkies 'on the house'. Add to this three bottles of Vasilikon's finest red, some beers, a gin and tonic and three or four cokes and our bill for six people was 90 euros - what an absolute bargain!
