It was a very different Sunday for us as we did not have Mum coming for lunch because she had been, very kindly, invited to join Klaus and Sheila.  This left us free to do some bits and pieces which we have just not had the time to do before and to go out to lunch just the two of us.

In a couple of weeks' time John's Mum, Jacky and Stan are coming over.  John is planning on resurrecting the Owls -v- Blades 9 hole par 3 golf challenge at Marios on the Tombs of the Kings Road but thought he could zhush it up with a coffee and a look around the Elea Golf Club which Stan wont have visited.

We took Stan (Jackie and Janet) to Minthis Hills for coffee last year and he was well impressed with the venue so we thought he might like to see another of the courses on the island where we can afford coffee but cannot afford to play!!

We haven't been to Elea for quite some time and to be honest we were a bit disappointed.  We walked in and couldn't see anyone save an old man reading his paper in a 'lounge' area which was reminiscent of an old people's home!  We walked out onto the terrace where we have had coffee before but it had all changed and it was being set up for Sunday lunch.  We had planned to stop for coffee but didn't bother as John couldn't see the point of traipsing all the way over here with Stan when they could get breakfast at the New Horizon opposite Marios's if they wanted some refreshment before, during or after said Challenge.

We planned to have lunch at Oniros as we haven't been at all this year so took the scenic route along the coast.  We stopped to have a look at what has been done to Riccos Beach which used to be pretty untouched and Riccos Bar was a bit rough and ready but popular.  It has all been tidied and tarted up and looks really rather nice.  Riccos Bar is still there but rather more organised than it used to be - so sorry Keith and Hilary it would probably no longer get your vote!

We carried on and got to Oniros to find that is was nigh on full but we managed to find a table in the shade - those that were not were not popular as it was very very hot!!  The spot is still stunning and the venue has been upgraded and improved over the years.  It is a real 'go-to' destination for locals and holiday-makers alike because it is just that little bit different.  The ambiance is fabulous and the service second to none.

As I said we haven't been this year and normally we go late afternoon rather than lunchtime.  The menu has changed a bit since we were last there and to be honest we were just a bit disappointed with the choices - they seem to be trying just a bit to hard with their ingredients - we are both a bit foodie but I would have though Kimchi might have been a step too far - I am just not sure that fermented vegetables does it for me!!  We were everso slightly underwhelmed with the food we chose - the description was better than the reality.  This was such a shame as we have always really loved that place.  We are hoping that next year there might be some changes to the menu!

We had our lunch and sat relaxing taking in the view before we eventually made our way back towards Droushia but not directly - we went a bit further along the coast and stopped to have a look at the Sea Caves.  It is all built up now but somewhere we have a photograph of me stood in the same place this picture was taken with Mum and Dad's old estate car which was called 'JD'.  Blimey things have changed in the last 30 years along this particular stretch of coastline.  I shall have to see if I can dig out that photograph!!!

Not the most successful of days but never mind.  We returned home to get the spare bedroom ready for a bit of decorating we want to do before Michelle arrives on Friday.  The wood for the panelling is arriving tomorrow!
