So today we were welcoming my cousin Michelle as a visitor for the next six days.  We have not seen each other for about 25 years we think but when Charlie was knocked over she was so helpful and subsequently she has been considering whether she might make a move to a different country.  She went to explore Spain earlier in the year and now she has come to Cyprus.  This is not an imminent move but unlike so many other people she is doing her homework first.
Even as youngsters I don't believe we spent much time together because her Dad was my Dad's youngest brother and there was 11 years difference so I think Dad had moved to live with his gran to go to secondary school when Uncle Viv came along. I do remember that Michelle was born in Singapore and remember seeing her as a little toddler. It is going to be a interesting few days getting reacquainted.
We called down to Mum's for a spot of lunch before setting off for the airport and eventually made it back to Droushia where the early part of our first evening meal was spent catching up and tucking into some village halloumi in pittas. Michelle is a pescatarian who doesn't eat pulses or tomatoes - ok not a problem but why is it that our visitors all seem to have very specific food requirements? It's actually not a problem having non-meat eaters - we should be used to it shouldn't we Wendy, Hazel and Laura???
Six days is just too short to cram in all the things we want to show Michelle so there was no chance of relaxing on evening one - John was in full-on Yiannis tour mode and we were frogmarched into the village via the horse of course! Michelle is a veterinary nurse in a feline only practice and before she goes we are going to get her to give our four the once-over in her professional capacity. Boris has been in yet another fight and is feeling pretty sorry for himself. He has lost yet another collar and has a big old puffy face to go with his bitten leg from previously.
As we walked down through the village we were greeted by Loukas, Andri and Marios who were taking in the evening air outside Marios's bar. It was a beautiful evening - warm and still and it was a full moon this evening - a harvest moon and it was massive and bright. They hailed us in from a distance and although we were heading for Finnikas to see if Michelle might like to eat there we felt it would be rude not to sit down with them for a while.
We were joined by Philippos's 92 year old mother - in all the years we have known her I am sure she has told us that she has been 92!!! One year she took to the stage at the wine festival and made it her own wrapping away merrily to a Cypriot song which seems to be something like Old MacDonald Had a Farm!! We stayed for one drink - I am not entirely sure we have not agreed to go to the new casino in Limassol with them at one point - I think Gran was making the arrangements!!
We finally made it to Finnikas where Michelle's initial impression was WOW!!! so going to eat there is not going to be an issue. It was relatively busy and as we were only staying for a drink we sat at the family table to enjoy the remainder of the evening. The drinks were on the house - bless Philippos and Marina.
We made our way home having had a lovely evening. Tomorrow Michelle and I are volunteering at Tala Monastery Cats and then going on a Misery Tour.
