No peace for the wicked...

Sadly somebody failed to mention to our four felines that they were to 'enjoy' an extra hour in bed so Minnie Mou was bouncing on our heads at what was today 5.00am but which was yesterday 6.00am - great!  I tried to ignore her but then heard some rumbling noises outside which was not thunder but the unmistakable sounds of the bin-men on a Sunday at 5.30am - clearly they had failed to change their clocks too.  On a separate note the island has now got two time zones as the Occupied North did not change their clocks so there is an hour difference however the European Parliament has voted to dispense with Daylight Saving Hour time changes so the year after next we wont be doing it either - this will cause problems in Ireland if Brexit has happened as it too will be an island with two different time zones.

I was a little worried about Charlie when I eventually got up to feed the cats because he did not come, he always comes, he comes even if he is not hungry 'just in case' but today he did not - he looked ok but this was not normal behaviour.  Mystery was solved sometime later when John bumped into Persephone (Charlie's Aunty 'P') who told us that she had had the pleasure of Charlie's company last night and had fed him - this must have been after we had gone to bed and given him one final bowl of food to try and satisfy his hunger through the night.  He was clearly porked out and unable to move.

After breakfast we said goodbye to Nicky and Mark who were going off with their heads full of a million ideas about how their new home is going to pan out.  It must be so exciting to be able to start with a reasonably blank canvas and shape the buildings into what you need and want but I have to say I am rather glad that we have just about done everything major we can to our house - we are left with maintenance, titivating and nice to haves.

It was a day of two halves.  We woke to blue skies and warm sunshine which was lovely but this soon began to deteriorate, at the back of the house looking out over Polis it was getting blacker and blacker and there was the unmistakable rumble of thunder in the distance and at the front of the house there was blue sky and puffy cloud.  I had managed to get washing out and just about dry which was good but was a little worried as Mum was coming up for lunch.

Today I was cooking lamb chops for lunch because I know Mum likes them.  These were proper New Zealand lamb chops and not local lamb/goat/gamb/loat which can be tough and quite strong tasting.  Not the cheapest meat I have ever bought but hey who cares as long as Mum enjoyed them that was all that matters.  I did Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, baby carrots, green beans and peas and used the lovely gravy left over from the lamb shanks yesterday and for pud we had an apple and sultana strudel with cream.  I enjoyed it and I think Mum enjoyed it which is great - it's always nice to cook and end up with clean plates.

The weather got so bad that Mum decided to leave earlier than planned.  I am so glad that she did because shortly after she was on the road it started to chuck it down and we had thunder and lightning - this is not nice to drive in so I was very pleased to hear that she had got home safe and sound, fortunately she was driving away from the weather or at least fast enough to get home before it reached Emba.

Our body clocks haven't as yet adjusted to the clock change but we were brave bunnies and stayed up to watch the footie before calling it a night.  I doubt the cats will have got the hang of the time tomorrow morning so we are bracing ourselves for an early start.
