A lovely day out with the Veasey's...

Although the weather forecast for this week showed rain, rain, rain for several days yesterday didn't turn out too bad in the end and this morning we had some very pleasant sunshine - really we cannot complain that on 10th December we are enjoying temperatures of 20 degrees.  Admittedly it didn't last but it only became overcast - there was no more rain save for what we had had early morning.

Today we had organised a mini Drouseians Day Out.  The first for nearly two years.  The last one was February 2018 when we went off in search of the flamingos on the salt flats near Akrotiri and had a lovely day out and then shortly afterwards my Dad passed away unexpectedly.  My Dad and Cyprus went hand in hand.  His love and enthusiasm for the island was infectious.  As a family unit Mum, John and I have come to terms with living on the island without him but he is everywhere.  When he and Mum first came to the island they used to explore, taking the road less travelled when roads were nothing more than dirt tracks so going back to doing the same has been a bit hard but there is still so much on the island to explore.  John and I had happened upon an amazing shop in the little village of Polemi which is dedicated to vinyl and collectibles.  We know that the Bobster is really, really keen on his music and we just wanted to show him what we had found.  We did so under the ruse that we needed a hand picking up some furniture from the shop next door!!!  Whilst Bobby was chatting with the owner Tassos we were busy looking at the Albums and Singles on offer with Di and I signing out any that we recognised - had we not been the only ones in the shop we could have cleared it in seconds!!

We dragged Rob away as Tassos normally closes at 12.00pm but had stayed open for us.  We then made our way back to Kathikas for lunch in the Winery.  Now that they have central heating in there it is lovely and warm and they have moved the sofas and replaced them with rustic wooden tables where we could sit and eat our lunch with the sun streaming in through the windows for as long as it was able to do so.

We had a lovely lunch together.  The food is beautifully presented.  Di and I opted for a home-made burger with chips.  I next to never have a burger so sometimes it is nice for a change and these were most definitely home-made as they were very meaty.  Rob had the chicken skewers with chips and salad and John had the pork chop.  We took the opportunity to top up our red wine ready for Christmas as we are sure Mum will have a little one with a spot of tonic over the festive season.

We finished off our day out with a visit to the Gin Bar in Kathikas - it seemed rude not too and as it had turned a bit chilly and I was driving I was happy to have a hot chocolate whilst the boys checked out the Old Speckled Hen.  Savvas managed to talk John into buying a nice Gin gift box (Bulldog with four 3Cent mixers) which will be part of my Christmas present!!  Bless Savvas he came straight in and lit the gas fire for us so we were toasty warm.

We dropped Di and Rob at home and then decided to go and check the post and the cemetery as I had seen workmen there yesterday but no work being done.  Blow me, Dad's neighbour Ivan has a smart new and permanent surround which it similar to but different from what we chose for Dad.  Doesn't that look so much smarter than the bare soil???  I cannot believe they managed to get all of that done in just half a day.  They have also extended the pedestrian footpath down the middle of the cemetery.
