Christmas Jumpers...

The weather over night and this morning was just awful so we made a command decision that we were not going to venture out today - this was going to provide some challenges in the culinary department but the main part of our meal for Sunday was already in progress in the slow cooker and was a 'one pot' chicken casserole so needed nothing else to go with it and an expedition into the furthest reaches of the freezer and store cupboard revealed sufficient ingredients to rustle up a summer fruit crumble as there were some partially used boxes of raspberries and blueberries to which I added some orange segments and zest.  Job done for Sunday then!!!  I needed to make some space in the freezer so took out a bag of beef ribs for our evening meal.

Having decided that today we were going to be chez-nous  I had the time to sort out John's new Christmas jumper which has Mum had kindly sent over.  It was perfect save for one teeny tiny detail - he was wearing a blue and white scarf and sporting blue baubles from his antlers.

Sacre Bleu - we do not do that colour in this household - oh no, no, no, blue and white are the colours of the other mid-week Sheffield football club so this little beauty needed a fairly drastic makeover.

This started with me embroidering over the scarf.  Fortunately I had managed to get some red and black wool in Jumbos, sadly no white but that wasn't too much of a problem.  I started with the scarf, covering up the blue and then edging in black and John thought that looked brilliant but then I decided to go over the nose and outline that and whilst I had black wool in my needle I redid the eyes and covered up the blue baubles.  Job done...

Well actually job not done because when John tried on his new improved Christmas jumper something didn't look quite right in the antler region and that is when I realised that some of the baubles were in fact red and the same colour as the rest of the jumper so you couldn't really pick them out.

So needle and wool back out again and Rudolph has fully defined balls!!!!

John now has a super smart sweater in full Sheffield United colours - and yes that is the same Sheffield United who managed a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa this evening which meant that at the end of today they were sitting 5th in the Premier League!!  Who would have thought it and long may it last although John isn't counting his chickens.

It was lovely to hear from our neighbours today and to see that they had eventually managed to use the voucher we had sent Lakis for his special birthday back in March.  They have not had the best of years and we wanted to give them something nice as they are such lovely neighbours and friends.

So here is a picture of Lakis enjoying his Champagne Afternoon Tea for Two at Galvin at The Athenaeum which they said was very nice  - apparently Galvin at The Athenaeum is the latest restaurant from Michelin-starred chefs Chris and Jeff Galvin where they have stepped away from their trademark French-inspired menus in favour of championing Britain's homegrown produce and supporting independent farmers.

The Athenaeum is in Mayfair and looks very nice so we do hope that Lakis and Argy had a special time - they certainly deserved it.
